Chaos reigns once again in the Springboks camp as Rassie Erasmus grapples with a second last-minute roster shuffle mere hours before a high-stakes face-off against the Wallabies in Cape Town. Initial plans were scrambled when Willie Le Roux, initially slated for full-back, succumbed to a groin issue earlier this week, prompting Aphelele Fassi's elevation to the starting XV. Adding to the pre-match drama, Jean-Luc du Preez has fallen ill, thwarting his much-anticipated return to the starting lineup after a seven-year hiatus. His replacement? Kwagga Smith, who now takes up the number eight mantle.

The adjustment to the team's structure introduces a 5-3 split on the bench, bringing in Andre Esterhuizen to cover the reshuffled back row. Despite these eleventh-hour changes, the core of the team remains steadfast. The electric trio of Canan Moodie, Cheslin Kolbe, and Fassi will command the back three, with Damian de Allende and captain Jesse Kriel anchoring the centres. The halves will see Grant Williams pairing with Handre Pollard, while Smith joins forces with Marco van Staden and Franco Mostert in a dynamic loose trio.

"It's always challenging to adapt to last-minute changes, but I trust our depth and the ability of players like Kwagga to step up in crucial times,"

reflected Erasmus in the lead-up to the match.

In the engine room, the combination of Ruan Nortje and RG Snyman at lock remains intact, supported by a formidable front row comprising Thomas du Toit, Malcolm Marx, and Ox Nche. The team's depth is further underscored on the bench, ready to inject fresh energy into the fray.

As the Springboks look to recalibrate and focus on the game, the Wallabies are not without their strengths, fielding a robust lineup led by Fraser McReight with the likes of Tom Wright and James O’Connor poised to make an impact.
