As the 2026 Six Nations Championship looms, England's head coach Steve Borthwick has sounded a battle cry reminiscent of Shakespeare's Henry V, rallying his troops for a formidable clash at the Stade de France. England, riding high on an 11-Test winning streak and topping the World Rugby rankings, are the frontrunners for this year's title, despite the stiff competition from Ireland and France, who have dominated the championship in recent years. Scotland, Italy, and Wales are also in the mix, each eager to upset the English applecart.

The stage is set for a dramatic finale in Paris on March 14, potentially a Grand Slam decider against the French. Borthwick's strategy is clear: he wants his squad to replicate their triumph of 2020 and reclaim the title. "We want to be in a position entering that game where we can achieve what we’re all aiming to achieve," Borthwick stated, emphasizing the importance of step-by-step preparation and focus.

"Well, I think the first thing I’d like to say about that is it’s brilliant that people are talking in that way about this England team. They can see the development of the team, the talent that’s in the team and the potential that’s in it. I think we’re nowhere near maxing out. It’s got a lot of talent within it."

Despite their recent successes, Borthwick is cautious, acknowledging the unpredictable nature of the Six Nations, where the last seven tournaments were decided in the final round. His vision extends beyond immediate victories, aiming for continuous improvement and integration of new talents like Vilikesa Sela and Trevor Davison, who are expected to add fresh dynamics to the team.

"There’s so much more to come from this team, and as we evolve, there are little bits we can find, other bits of the game we can extend, and other players can come into the squad, that will add something different, and another element of competition to the squad. That in itself will raise the standards. Players have to work exceptionally hard to be in that 23."

Borthwick's ambition is not just for a stronger squad but also for a robust following, envisioning throngs of England fans crossing the Channel to support their team in what could be a monumental showdown in Paris. As the Six Nations approaches, the blend of seasoned warriors and burgeoning talent in Borthwick’s squad makes England a formidable contender, promising an electrifying rugby spectacle.
