The titanic clashes in the Investec Champions Cup are set to bring fireworks this weekend, with the Stormers and Vodacom Bulls potentially setting up a quarter-final derby, provided they can navigate treacherous Last-16 fixtures. The Stormers face a daunting task against French powerhouse Toulon at Stade Mayol, while the Bulls have a tricky visit to Scotstoun to take on the Glasgow Warriors.

Toulon, a three-time champion, stands as a monumental challenge for the Stormers, who have previously fallen short against the French squad. Stormers’ coach John Dobson is adamant that his team is ready to rise to the occasion.

"We're giving it a full go,"

Dobson promised, recalling the speed of Toulon’s play that caught them off guard in their last encounter. The Stormers, however, are buoyed by their recent performance in France, securing a victory over Bayonne in December.

Meanwhile, the Bulls' road to the quarter-finals is no less fraught with difficulty. They face a Glasgow Warriors team that has been dominant in the Vodacom URC, leading the pack after 14 rounds. Despite only clinching one pool game victory, the Bulls have turned their form around magnificently, winning five of their last six matches. Their most recent history against Glasgow shows a tight contest with two wins out of the last five meetings, including a significant victory in Glasgow last April.

In the EPCR Challenge Cup, the Sharks are set to battle Connacht in Ireland, aiming to overcome their recent poor track record against the Irish side. Connacht has dominated the Sharks in the URC, winning four of their last five encounters. The Sharks will need to channel their performance from their last Champions Cup pool match, where they impressively put 50 points past Clermont, despite ultimately missing out on advancing.

The weekend is packed with high-stakes European rugby, with both the Investec Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup promising intense battles and dramatic outcomes. The potential all-South African clash between the Stormers and Bulls in Cape Town would be a highlight, adding an extra layer of excitement to the mix.

Teams to watch this weekend include Northampton Saints, Castres, Saracens, Bath, Toulouse, Bristol Bears, Harlequins, Sale Sharks, Bordeaux Bègles, Leicester Tigers, Leinster, and Edinburgh, all vying for their spots in the next round of the Champions Cup.
