In a clash that swung with the momentum of a pendulum, the Stormers edged out Leicester Tigers 39-26 in a fiery Investec Champions Cup match in Cape Town. While some players struggled under pressure, it was the Stormers’ bench that ultimately delivered salvation, transforming a precarious performance into a victorious one.

At the back, Wandisile Simelane had a day to forget, his handling under the high ball left much to be desired, contributing to multiple turnovers. His overall performance merited a meager 4. Dylan Maart, donning the 14 jersey, saw little action with the ball and was often found wanting in defence, scoring a 5. Suleiman Hartzenberg started in the center but was substituted early in the second half after failing to impress, also scoring a 5.

Jonathan Roche, however, provided a spark with a brilliant break that set up the Stormers' first try, earning a solid 7 for his efforts. On the wing, Leolin Zas, though starved of possession, managed to notch a try, demonstrating his opportunistic instincts.

The captain, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, displayed a mixed bag of brilliance interspersed with costly errors, including a sin-bin stint, which summed up an erratic team performance, leading him to score a 5. Stefan Ungerer, at scrum-half, did his part with decent service and occasional probing runs, earning a 6.

"It was a tough day, but we showed character to come back and close it out," said Feinberg-Mngomezulu post-match.

In the forwards, Evan Roos was a powerhouse number eight, despite a notable fumble, scoring an 8. Flanker Ben-Jason Dixon was ever-present in defence, securing a 7, while Paul de Villiers was exceptional, setting up two tries and defending stoutly, earning a 9 and the Man of the Match title.

The lock pairing had a mixed day; Ruben van Heerden was active in open play, scoring a 6, whereas JD Schickerling, despite his try, was mostly noted for his defensive work, also scoring a 7.

The front row had issues, with André-Hugo Venter struggling in the lineouts but managing to score a try, earning a 4. Neethling Fouché faced tough calls at the scrum but was involved in a key play for a try before being substituted, scoring a 4.

The bench was crucial, with replacements like Zachary Porthen and Imad Khan making significant impacts, turning the game in the Stormers' favor. Their introduction was pivotal, scoring a collective 9 for their game-changing contributions.

This match was a testament to the depth and resilience of the Stormers squad, overcoming a shaky start to clinch a crucial victory in their Champions Cup campaign.
