Proteas captain Temba Bavuma has opened up about how he felt after being snubbed once again at the Betway SA20 Player Auction last week.

One of the talking points was the fact that Bavuma had gone unsold for the second season in a row.

Bavuma last played a T20 match for the Lions against the Dolphins in Johannesburg in April last year, which was the final of the CSA T20 Challenge. His last T20 International for South Africa was in September 2023 against Australia in Durban.

With his playing opportunities in the shortest format becoming more limited these days, Bavuma said it was not a major shock but there was definitely a hint of disappointment in his response.

“Not surprised. Last year I also went unsold. I was speaking to my missus about it, and I thought even for me, I kind of struggle, if I put it that way, to get playing opportunities,” Bavuma told SportsBoom.co.za.

“In the last couple of years, I’ve thrown my hat into the county circuit as well. And nothing has come about there. I mean, I know that’s a different format."

Bavuma also referenced that he's sixth in the ICC Test batting bakings.

“It’s red-ball cricket. But I think with the performances I’ve put in, especially in that space over the last four to five years, being one of the leading run scorers, not just in the country, internationally, in the top five, top 10 within the ICC rankings. I guess you would think an opportunity would come from that, would come there.

“But not surprised. These opportunities are kind of hard to come by. But yeah, I’m sure it will be fun for the players who will be involved.”

It's an honest judgement without prejudice made by people who know cricket. If the decision was made by CA or determined by South African powers that be then Bavuma would not only have been selected he would have been made captain as well. And just to add insult to injury, Smithie lobbied for his selection last year after he'd failed at auction, had him picked by one of the teams but after all that he proved as expected a disaster out in the middle.

As I've been trying to tell you Chimp-ou there's a stench about your "All-Time" great being selected in white ball cricket.

I feel justified. Racism and mediocrity continue to have a major impact on shaping South Africa's society and environment.

Get that into your numb head.

You fuckin moron.

where did I once call him an all time great?

While you didn't have him in the team proper in my Alltime Great South African team you have him as the drinks carrier.

Remember that?

Now here's the thing...and the difference between me and you.....I have no respect for Bavuma as a white ball player and I find it repulsive to mention his name alongside of South African greats.

The fact that he's favoured because of the colour of his skin shits me bigtime.

In that blog I even said to you that you can't be serious.

Do you suffer leaning towards POC!

Yet another reminder that even the SA home 20 over series has no team bidding for "The Great One".

Not the first time either.

Wonder why???????

He might be regarded as "One of the great SA batsmen" in some circles but he will never be in the same class as Smith, AB, Pollock, Kallis and many other great SA batsmen.

Sure he has scored runs in a few tests but he is by no means an exciting and classy batsmen.

Time to move on Kaptein and get a seat in the SA Cabinet, hopefully not as Minister of Sport.

Bavima is a test criekt playe only - his batting in OD I's and especially T20 matches is nort really up to standard

The system applicable in most tes-playng countries when organizing expscially T20 tournament is either a bidding process

I gove Bavuma credit for his test level performances - burt in shorter versions of the game

With his performances he is not getting offers to play in the many T20 matches played

Well, that's stating the obvious.

Best he retire from all cricket.

Best he retire from all cricket.

Yep, all it does is block the selection of a promising youngster as in the case of Rickelton.

Pathetic!
