The Boks did score on their first attempt using this. It could be effective when the Boks struggle to get the rolling maul going. A 5-10 metre lineout is still Bok's most effective attacking weapon.
It is usually easier to set up a maul from the middle of a lineout.
It's a good strategy by creating
doubt as to the point of attack.

Also with the scrum against the touchline using Kolbe at 9 instead of wasted defending the touchline they had an extra player in the backline with Reinach positioned in the backline

This looks like a good idea when the middle of the lineout Jumper throws back to the front of the lineout jumper while in the air. The return throw can be passed backwards - unlike a lineout throw that has to be straight.
It would be hard to protect a lineout against 2 jumpers at the same time to prevent the rolling maul.
