I guess it was towards end of the game and we had already won, but it's worth pointing out this incredible try saving tackle by Grant Williams on one of the best finishers in the game, Will Jordan. You'd back Jordan to score from there 9/10.

His pace is next level and the timing and accuracy of that tackle was amazing

Sep 16, 2025, 18:40

It was a fantastic cover tackle. I did notice in both tests, the Boks leave a lot of space on the left wing that the All Blacks tried to exploit.

Sep 16, 2025, 18:51

We're defending outside in, trying to cut wide access off early. When it fails, or someone gets a pass over the defense, as Australia did numerous times in the first test this year, there is space outside.

Sep 16, 2025, 19:09

My son is doing the same with his side - defending outside in - thanks to his new director of sport and forwards coach who employed the same, very successfully at Michaelhouse

He says it’s hard to adjust to as it feels wrong

Sep 16, 2025, 20:26

Yup, and umbrella defence - but perhaps the fullback could also be covering this space as well.

I dont recall the gap being as big during the Neinaber years, or the wing standing so far away from the touchline.

Sep 16, 2025, 23:29

One of the brilliant individual tackles of the year.

Sep 17, 2025, 07:46

Grant is a perfect 9.

How many times this year did we the Sharks struggle until he came on? If we do end up sticking with Sacha, AE and Moodie from now on, that's a terrifying prospect for any team in world rugby because Grant buys everybody time.

I'm still of the opinion that Williams/Sacha is our prime combination. Potentially the most dangerous we've ever had.

Faf will always be one of my favourite players, but it's nice to see another 9 come through that one can really get behind.

Sep 17, 2025, 07:53

Why do you think we will stick with AE given Willemse was selected to start at 12 and AE has always been the backup to DA?

So Rassie is going to do one of two things - keep Willemse at 12 or resort back to the old which will be DA not AE, especially considering AE had a solid game on Saturday, nothing earth shattering, bashing the door down select me kind of performance

Its Willemse or DA for Rassie - let’s hope it’s Willemse

Sep 17, 2025, 08:07

Get out of the closet, Dave

Sep 17, 2025, 08:12

its the same closet Rassie is in

Sep 17, 2025, 09:33

Finally, it all makes sense.

Personally, I can think of nothing worse than Sacha having to suffer DDA outside him.

How Am ever survived is beyond me.

Sep 17, 2025, 11:27

As much as I would like AE be given an extended run in the 12 jersey, his ability to come on and cover on the side of the scrum keeps him on the bench. He's Rassies 5/3 or 6/2 cheat code.

How good though to see a 12 draw in defenders before putting away his outside backs rather than head down tractor or the stupid grubbers we get from Duh Duh Allende. DA wouldn't have thrown that pass for Kolbe's 2nd try.

Sep 17, 2025, 11:37

Rugby ignorance of the highest order

Sep 17, 2025, 13:54

Rugby obstinacy of the highest order.

"As much as I would like AE be given an extended run in the 12 jersey, his ability to come on and cover on the side of the scrum keeps him on the bench. He's Rassies 5/3 or 6/2 cheat code."

Personally, I would rather use Kwagga as the cheat code.

AE is just too good at 12, bossing the backline. The comfort one must have playing outside of him, when you know that he's basically incapable of making bad decisions, that if you break he's gonna be right on your shoulder and that if he breaks he will be looking for you and likely put you away.

For me, he scores a ten for both IQ and ability and so I really struggle to be comfortable using him as a hybrid. It feels almost wasteful. Same as having Willemse at 23. Sure, he's probably the best 23 in the world, but you gain more from having him on the field, in a set position, where he can just focus on being a superstar instead of covering everybody else.

Sep 17, 2025, 14:26

Nope ignorance

To think you clowns believe the Boks have achieved what they have with a useless 12, one of the most important positions on the field is rugby ignorance of the highest order

Sep 17, 2025, 15:52

NO, we believe they have achieved the things they have DESPITE having a cul de sac @ 12.

Big difference.

Sep 17, 2025, 18:52

Then you are more clueless than I first anticipated

Sep 17, 2025, 19:10

Hell the man got us booted from the 2015 WC by not tackling NZs most dangerous back and then in a replay got totally bamboozled by Mo’unga in the 23 WC for a try, later called back, but could have changed the game if it stood.

And then there was the Pom test we lost because he failed to tackle the blind side wing cutting into his channel

And in all those WC games he has one contribution of note … .the Wallie try where Biggar stupidly tried to strip him, instead of tackle.

A 10 year history of gumming up the works and generally being clueless. If he was playing last Saturday there is zero chance we would have produced that fluid running rugby.

Sep 17, 2025, 19:24

Moz we have done your version of the facts to death - all disproved as a load of biased shit

DA is a class act and has been huge for the Boks - an integral part of our sustained success

Says more about you that you don’t see his value but it gets worse when we read your takes on PSDT

But the DA chapter is coming to an end - Willemse is now the better option moving forward

Thankfully it looks like useless Mostert is close to being done as well - can’t wait for that day but unfortunately Rassie seems hell bent on another powder puff in Nortje - at least Nortje is a far better rugby player but not for me

Sep 17, 2025, 19:32

Dave I don’t blame you for trying to divert from the fundamental truth…..no way last Saturday could have happened if Dud Allende was grounding the ship at 12. So one wonders, how many Saturday’s did we have to eat porridge when we could have had Royal Beluga caviar?

Sep 17, 2025, 19:36

Well given AE did nothing of note on Saturday I’m struggling to understand why you think DA would have failed had he been there

The same 12 that has been there for 2 back to back WC’s, a Lions series, RC’s and kept as at 1 for most of his tenure

Yeah he is reaaaalllly shit!!!

Sep 17, 2025, 19:45

Mostert was there as well for 2 world cups, a Lions Series and the RC.

And he actually made tangible contributions like missing zero tackles in RWC 2023….and you still think he’s useless.

Two can play that game.

Sep 17, 2025, 19:51

Mostert has never made a tangible contribution ever - apart from nice little process tackles you would expect your centre to make

The difference between my take on Mostert vs your take on DA is that you think DA is a poor rugby player whereas with Mostert I only have an issue with the fact that he is physically inept. He still executes but without grunt. You say DA can’t even execute

Sep 17, 2025, 19:54

Hahaha,…no I say Dud executes stampkar rugby very well.

Sep 17, 2025, 20:18

And Mostert can’t :)
