The red card ripped the soul from the game

All feeds were blocked so I had to rush elsewhere to watch on TV, would have loved to chat with you guys.

That Cane red - there were players throughout this tournament who got away with no more than a penalty for the same thing.

This is the World Cup Final, a once in 4 years event, and you red card an offense for which a yellow would easily have been enough. It's the FUCKING FINAL.

Well done All Blacks for playing all the rugby.

Well done Boks for hanging on.

It feels hollow.

Oct 28, 2023, 21:23

Kolisi bull rushed the middle of the Kiwis face. Yellow. Damian early on neck tacked and immediately charged into ruck from wrong side. Uncalled. Etzebeth leading with the elbow, makes contact. No call. Steph, takes man out in air, no call. This whole game was a farce from beginning to end. To make matters worse, we were outplayed comprehensively by the Kiwis! Most Saffers are too degenerate to acknowledge the truth. The Boks were garbage in each and every game of this WC. They were nothing in the final.

Oct 28, 2023, 21:28

Poor ou Doos is beside himself as I predicted. He so wanted the Wee abs to win.

Pakster is as confused as often happens. Kolisi was unlucky to get a yellow.

The Bok defence was sensational lead by the world's number one 7 Du Toit.

Oct 28, 2023, 21:56

Beenz I'm not confused, I'm disappointed that a game of this magnitude was reduced to an uneven contest for 50 minutes. We couldn't score a single point a man up for 46 minutes. The All Blacks fought valiantly but once that red landed it was all but over - with more than half of a World Cup Final left to play.

If you don't find that a disservice to the game, you and I have very different standards to what we consider a fair contest and the value we attach to that.

Oct 28, 2023, 22:05

Agree the red was a bit harsh but in truth I don't really care . . .

Well done Bokke!!!

Oct 28, 2023, 22:17

The head will remain sacrosanct ...................onset of early dementia, legal proceedings etc.

Oct 28, 2023, 22:19

Harsh?

It was a shoulder to the face and Kriel was virtually upright.

That was a red all day. I had no doubt that it'd be upgraded.

Jessie's hit in the Scotty game was also a red but wasn't given.

But that's the problem with inconsistency. It brings correct calls into disrepute.

Oct 28, 2023, 22:22

The head will remain sacrosanct ...................onset of early dementia, legal proceedings etc.

But only if they wear green? What of the Faf offside rushes? This was an embarrassment. Elbow to the head area? Not even a penalty? This was a great disservice to the game. There could have been a great game, it could have been a great contest. It was not. I had been anticipating something like this, but it never did manifest to the extent that I had feared. Boy did it make up for it in the final. The entire competition is dead after this. Windgats will beat their chests, but those who appreciate the integrity and purity of the game will not follow along. You wait four years for this game, and this is what you are given. Unforgiveable.

Oct 28, 2023, 22:38

We said ages ago Cane was a liability.

Lastnight he was more than that....bad choice.

Oct 29, 2023, 11:35

Agree with you Pakie. The Red did rip the soul from the game for me.

Deus I agree with you. To wait 4years for this and then the red happens - as Pakie said - Absolutely heart breaking. I would have loved to a similar game to the one at Ellis Park years ago - when Habana and Co were still playing - Now that was a Test.

Oct 29, 2023, 11:41

I hate cards all round, especially reds...take the player off by all means, but let him be replaced from the bench after 10min...especially the for accidental stuff.

Oct 29, 2023, 11:45

Hahahahahahahahaha Doos making a complete jackass of hi. Self.

He is out of control. All the frustration of years of BS have caught up with him. He has been proven to be wrong time and again and now this RWC has seen tbe vitriolic bullduster crash!

It was this fitting thst the player most bullied by Mozzzz and Doos got the man of the match.

Wonder if Rasssie will coach of the year. Boks are World Champs and at number 1 in the rankings. Back to back wins over the Kiwis etc.

Oct 29, 2023, 11:48

I am rooted in facts, all you have espoused is illiteracy compounded by hyper-emotionality. You have been found out by mere questions, because there is no substance in you or what you believe you neo-lib.

Oct 30, 2023, 06:03

I can't agree at all

As soon as it happened, I said that was a Red card all day.... every day.

A full on deliberate shoulder charge to the face / head area .... come on man ....

Yes, it marred the final .....yes, we didn't even score a point in all that time we were one man up.

If that shoulder charge had resulted in the player being knocked unconscious, we may all feel a bit differently about the Red card, but even though that didn't happen, it doesn't make it any less dangerous ,,

A deserved red

Oct 30, 2023, 06:36

Same here, DA.

It doesn't matter if the attacker changes direction laterally. There is zero mitigation for that. The defender must be low enough to make a tackle when he's defending. I'm not sure how that is confusing anyone really.

Even my girlfriend said "Yeah, that's the game!"

Kolisi's hit rolled up from the chest and he was low. There is clear mitigation for that.

There were many bunk calls in this WC but those weren't in that category.

Of course there are larger arguments concerning consistency, ruining games with cards, etc. But those are separate to this incident and only related in a the broader argument concerning reffing and WR's administration of the game in general.

Oct 30, 2023, 07:03

Agreed Plum

I see now that even Cane himself has said that he should have known better, and and that he should never have put himself into that tackling position and risk a card ....

Massive respect for him, to admitting that

Got this per WhatsApp:

"Here’s an honest report from a Bok Supporter by the name of Wayne Groenewald: I wasn’t going to post about the New Zealand fans being sore losers because I have a lot of Kiwi friends but it’s getting ridiculous. Here are the facts that need to be understood, swallowed and digested. The best team did not lose, the best team won. That’s how it works.

1. You had 61% possession but failed to convert it into points

2. There is no referee conspiracy

3. There is no bribery and corruption

4. You missed 2 kicks - we missed 0

5. You got 1 yellow card and 1 Red

6. We got 2 yellow cards

7. We out muscled you on the field with immense defence

8. You confidently decided to kick for the corner when points were on offer

9. You made numerous handling errors

10. Your ill discipline cost you at vital moments

11. Some calls didn’t go your way but that’s rugby and it happens

12. Some calls didn’t go our way either

13. Certain decisions cost you big

You have no one to blame but yourselves. It’s time to get honest and clear with yourselves, admit you lost fair and square and congratulate your old foe and leave it at that. We have lost to you numerous times and we have never cried foul like this. We take the loss on the chin and move on. This is not your last rodeo and you will be back to beat us once more. The Boks are world champions after one hell of a battle. We have nothing but immense respect for the Kiwis. Don’t tarnish it with the sore loser antics and moaning. We know losing sucks - we’ve been there many times - just not yesterday.

For the love of the game!"

Bottom line: we got the job done.

Oct 30, 2023, 12:17

Pakie

It is no use arguing about the Red Card.   The NH refs will always give a red where a player's neck is used to bring him down.    It was not a case where the tackle was aimed at the body and the neck got involved by accident.    In the case of this red card   - it was only a grab at the neck that was used.   So a red card was inevitable.   As a result of that neck grab Mbonambi had to leave the field and the whole team was diosrupted as a result.

So live with it,

Oct 30, 2023, 12:20

Let's rephrase.

The red card that ripped the soul from Mozzzz, The Doos and poor Pakster.

The cynical red by Dam was we deserved and part of the bigger I'll discipline problem the wee abs have when put under pressure.

Oct 30, 2023, 12:54

The red card was worth 10 points..   ..25 of a point per minute as derived from a large study of cards….adjusting for handicap NZ won the game by 9 points. We played no rugby.

Oct 30, 2023, 12:59

". . . adjusting for handicap NZ won the game by 9 points. We played no rugby."

Oh dear, so we actually lost . . . on handicap?

Someone better tell the Springboks that they actually lost by 9 points and should give the trophy back. Say Moffie, why don't you send them an email or a tweet to that effect and let us all know how that works out for you?

LMAO!

Oct 30, 2023, 13:07

Can you spot Doos and Moffie?

Oct 30, 2023, 13:11

Bullshit was the red worth 10 points

We were without a specialist hooker for 78 min, it nullified our scrums and line outs

Areas of the game we are masters at and where we would have taken advantage of the numerical advantage

This fact effectively cancelled out the red card

Had Marx or Bongi been on the field I’m guessing we would have blown the AB’s out of the game with their 14 men

Fourie is a little guy, good in the loose and over the ball but a liability in the scrum and line outs

Oct 30, 2023, 13:11

Hahahahahaha ou Mozzzz losing his mind. The Red was well deserved.

So funny. Doubtless we must immediately send back the RWC.

Hahahahahaha. how much lower can these two buffoons sink.

Oct 30, 2023, 13:50

Classic, we were handed a huge advantage and Peeper thinks it had no effect, Here are the facts:

WC won by 1 point while playing with a 10point advantage.

Four games against parity opponents lost by a cumulative 2 points

Three knockouts won by a total of 3 points while playing with a cumulative 30 minutes of player advantage.

Let’s have some honesty. It was damn stupid having no bench hooker, flyhalf and scrum half. We never beat any of our playoff opponents in terms of meters gained or defenders  beaten.

We played one dimensional rugby and defended/kicked our way to a card aided victory.

Oct 30, 2023, 13:59

My take is we have no one to blame but ourselves.  Very proud of the boys to go within 1 point.

No complaints from me.

Oct 30, 2023, 14:07

The final could have been a disaster for rugby, the All Blacks saved the day by playing brilliant rugby. Personally I don’t think the WC should have been decided on the difference between the Kolisi and Cane incidents. But that’s not the majority view.

Oct 30, 2023, 15:08

There was nothing stupid about anything we did - why because we fucking won this thing and not just winning it, winning it via a route harder than any side has ever done before

No side in history has ever had to play 5 of the top 6 sides in the game to win the thing

How we won counts for fuck all - what counts is that we won it

Oct 30, 2023, 15:23

Brilliant rugby and you lose.... need a decent kicker they do.

Oct 30, 2023, 18:30

DbD your post on the final is perfect.

We as spectators are always critical of every call made by the officials be it right or wrong as per our support for a team.

I also agree that a red card should allow a replacement player after a period (10/15 minutes) unless it is a major foul.

But in the end it was a tight game and the win was on the line more than once for each team,

Unfortunately the game only allows for one winner...........

Oct 30, 2023, 19:34

"Personally I don’t think the WC should have been decided on the difference between the Kolisi and Cane incidents. But that’s not the majority view."

It wasn't...it was decided on the laws of the game...letter of the law stuff...we did enough to win...they didn't make it ...hard luck...thanks for showing where you stand...we get it...

Oct 31, 2023, 06:10

So now some are saying, because we had narrow or close wins against 5 of the top 6 in the world, to win this world cup.... it doesn't show how good the Boks are ....

They were close wins because the opposition was that good, and the road to the final was that hard.

Losing Bongi with a only a few minutes on the clock was absolutely monstrous for us ....

What a bloody farce ..... no team has ever had to do what this Bok team did
