The rugby world's future stars are set to descend on Gqeberha once more, with the U20 Rugby Championship returning with a bang to Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium this April. Teams from South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and Argentina will battle it out, showcasing the raw talent and future of rugby in the southern hemisphere. The event, beginning on Freedom Day, April 27, promises another round of thrilling rugby over three competitive match days.

Last year, the tournament proved a precursor to greatness, with the Junior Boks and New Zealand progressing to the World Rugby U20 final, where South Africa clinched the title under the leadership of Riley Norton. This year, the championship not only serves as essential preparation for the upcoming Junior World Championship in Georgia but also as a critical platform for budding talent to shine on the international stage.

"Last year's event was a massive success, and we are thrilled that this tournament will be returning to Gqeberha,"

said Rian Oberholzer, CEO of SA Rugby. He lauded the Eastern Cape's deep rugby roots and enthusiastic fan base, which are expected to fill the stands at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium again.

Brendan Morris, CEO of SANZAAR, also praised the choice of venue and the ongoing partnership with SA Rugby.

"Following the success of the tournament in Gqeberha last year, SANZAAR is pleased to announce that the 2026 U20 Rugby Championship will again head to South Africa this year,"

Morris remarked. He highlighted the championship's role in nurturing the next generation of rugby greats, including players, coaches, and officials.

The championship is scheduled as follows: New Zealand will face Australia at 2:00 PM followed by the Junior Boks against Argentina at 4:10 PM on Monday, April 27. The following rounds will see New Zealand versus Argentina and the Junior Boks versus Australia on Sunday, May 3, with Argentina versus Australia and the Junior Boks against New Zealand wrapping up the tournament on Saturday, May 9.

With such a lineup, the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha is set to be the epicenter of youth rugby this season, drawing fans and future stars alike to its grounds. The stage is set for a spectacular display of skill, sportsmanship, and the spirited competition that is the hallmark of the Rugby Championship U20.

Teams: South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina.
