Coach Andy Farrell is shaking things up with a quintet of fresh faces for Ireland’s crunch Six Nations clash against Wales in Dublin this Friday. Leading the charge in his 50th cap will be Jamison Gibson-Park, fresh off a stellar Man of the Match performance against England. Under his wing, taking his first steps in the big leagues, will be Nathan Doak who is poised to make his test debut.
It’s a big day for the Ulster boys, with three of them being roped into the starting XV. Nick Timoney, who’s been turning heads from the bench, earns his first Six Nations start, replacing Josh van der Flier in the back row. Wing Jacob Stockdale is set to redeem himself after missing out post the French defeat, stepping in for the injured James Lowe. Meanwhile, prop Tom O’Toole steps up for the injured Jeremy Loughman. Ronan Kelleher and Jack Conan also join the fray, hoping to leave a mark against the Welsh.
"We have two special milestones in the squad this week at opposite ends of the scrumhalf spectrum,"
Farrell remarked. He added,
“I would firstly like to congratulate Nathan on his first international selection. Nathan has been around a few Ireland camps in recent years and has impressed with the consistency and quality of his play in training and with Ulster over a longer period. Jamison becomes the 61st Irish international to reach the 50-cap mark, which is an incredible achievement for a top-class professional.”
While Ireland still harbors slim hopes for the title, France could clinch it this weekend with a bonus-point victory over Scotland. Meanwhile, Wales, desperate to snap their 14-match losing streak in the Six Nations, are buoyed by a near-win against Scotland recently.
The Irish lineup is as follows: Jamie Osborne, Robert Baloucoune, Garry Ringrose, Stuart McCloskey, Jacob Stockdale, Jack Crowley, Jamison Gibson-Park, Caelan Doris (c), Nick Timoney, Jack Conan, Tadhg Beirne, James Ryan, Tadhg Furlong, Ronan Kelleher, Tom O’Toole. Bench: Tom Stewart, Michael Milne, Thomas Clarkson, Joe McCarthy, Josh van der Flier, Nathan Doak, Tom Farrell, Ciaran Frawley.
This Friday’s face-off in Dublin is not just another match but a battlefield where legends are tested and new warriors are born. May the best team win!
