In the latest Six Nations showdown, Wales faced a brutal reality check with a 54-12 drubbing at the hands of a dazzling French team. Under the spotlight of the Millennium Stadium, the French side, led by a stellar Matthieu Jalibert, put on a rugby clinic by running in eight tries against a beleaguered Welsh side.

Post-match, Wales coach Steve Tandy seemed to be fishing in a pool of optimism despite the heavy loss. "If you look at the athletes France have, if we kick a little too far, or if there’s an offload, they come alive," Tandy explained, acknowledging the prowess of the French. He added, "You have to tip your hat to France and where they are as a team." With this defeat, Tandy's tenure has seen the Welsh side concede more than 50 points in four out of five games, a stat that screams crisis.

"I thought we had moments in the game, our discipline was a lot better [than last week]."

Tandy highlighted some silver linings, noting an improvement in discipline and set-piece execution from their previous outing at Twickenham. "I thought the set-piece was excellent… we could’ve scored a few more tries," he remarked. He expressed a measured optimism about the team's path forward, emphasizing the ongoing process of building and improving.

On the French side, Matthieu Jalibert, who bagged the Man of the Match title, shared his relief and satisfaction. "Sometimes in certain matches with France, when I come on, I’m left with a few regrets because I feel like I’m not myself," Jalibert confessed. His performance, which included a try and three assists, was a significant part of France's commanding display.

"We’re very happy to have played a generally complete match today. It bodes well for what’s next."

Louis Bielle-Biarrey, another key performer for France, emphasized the importance of maintaining focus, regardless of the opponent's form. Meanwhile, French coach Fabien Galthie reflected on the maturity and potential of his team, highlighting the balance of youth and experience as crucial for their continued success. As Wales regroups to face Scotland, France looks ahead to hosting Italy, with both teams eager to build on their performances.
