In a bold declaration, Wallabies captain Harry Wilson has expressed his eagerness for a showdown with the Springboks in the 2027 Rugby World Cup quarter-finals. The Wallabies, who have been grouped with the All Blacks, Chile, and Hong Kong China, are eyeing a top finish in Pool A which could set them up for a titanic clash against the world champions if both teams advance as expected.

Wilson, never one to mince his words, shared his excitement about opening their campaign against the All Blacks. "We’re obviously stoked to get the All Blacks, a team we love versing," Wilson remarked. The captain firmly believes that an early victory against such a formidable opponent would not only boost their morale but also strengthen their resolve for the challenges ahead. "In the World Cup, if you want to win it, you’ve got to beat the best teams," he added.

"I guess if you beat the All Blacks, it will give our team a lot of confidence,"

Despite a rocky 2025 season where the Wallabies managed only five wins out of fifteen, including a significant victory against the Boks at Ellis Park, Wilson is optimistic. The team's performance has been inconsistent, and they've slipped to seventh in the world rankings, but the captain believes that they have shown flashes of brilliance capable of overcoming the best.

"Ultimately, we’ve got to be winning more games," Wilson acknowledged, pointing out the need to find consistency. The Wallabies are determined to close the gap between their potential and their actual performances, drawing strength from their capability to topple top-tier teams.

"So if we get the Boks in the quarter-finals, it will be exciting, and it’s a challenge we’re going to have to be ready for."

The Springboks, meanwhile, are expected to breeze through Pool B, which includes Italy, Georgia, and Romania. The stage is set for what could be a monumental quarter-final clash, should both teams live up to expectations and top their respective groups. The Wallabies, under Wilson’s leadership, are not just participating to make up the numbers; they are aiming to make a profound impact, starting with what could be the most defining matches of their campaign.
