The Wallabies' stunning 38-22 win over the Springboks in Johannesburg came at a high price, with injuries sidelining key players Dylan Pietsch and James Slipper for the upcoming rematch in Cape Town. This victory marked Australia's first win at Ellis Park since 1963 and their first in South Africa in over a decade, shaking the rugby world.

Despite the euphoria of a comeback from a 22-0 deficit, the Wallabies now face tactical headaches. Winger Dylan Pietsch sparked the rally with a try but suffered a broken jaw in a fierce clash with Springboks captain Siya Kolisi. Slipper, on the other hand, is dealing with concussion symptoms after failing his post-match HIA. Both are headed back to Australia, further compounded by Ben Donaldson's absence due to an abductor strain picked up in training.

As replacements, Filipo Daugunu, Rhys van Nek, and Hamish Stewart are headed to South Africa. The injuries open the door for newcomers like Aidan Ross and Corey Toole to potentially make their Wallabies debuts. Ross, a former All Black, and Tom Robertson are contending for front-row slots, while Toole is among those considered for the vacant wing position, competing with Daugunu and Josh Flook. Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt might also choose to promote Andrew Kellaway to the starting lineup.

"He's a bit more comfortable now,"

Schmidt remarked regarding Harry Wilson, who is hopeful for a quick recovery after a knee injury sustained while scoring a try.

"We live and hope,"

added Schmidt, striking a cautiously optimistic tone.

There is also positive news concerning Rob Valetini, who is nearing a return from a calf injury that sidelined him for two matches. As the Wallabies regroup and re-strategize, the blend of veteran savvy and fresh talent will be critical for their next face-off against the formidable Springboks in Cape Town.
