Wallabies head coach Joe Schmidt has unveiled his 36-man roster for the incoming Rugby Championship clashes, with a mix of returns from injury and notable absences shaping the squad dynamics. As Australia readies to face Argentina, here's a breakdown of the winners and losers from Schmidt's latest selection.

The squad sees the welcome return of Tom Lynagh, Allan Alaalatoa, and Harry Potter, all key figures sidelined during the bouts with the Springboks due to injuries from a prior series. Their comeback is timely, given the squad's recent form, including a stunning win in Johannesburg and a tight contest in Cape Town. Lynagh, returning from a concussion, and Alaalatoa, recovering from a shoulder injury, alongside Potter, who is back from a hamstring injury, are set to boost the team's competitiveness.

"Their inclusion should bolster the Wallabies against Argentina," Schmidt remarked, highlighting the strategic importance of their return.

However, the squad faces a significant blow with Will Skelton returning to La Rochelle, sidelining him for the upcoming tests. "I was optimistic about playing against Argentina," Skelton shared before his departure, underscoring his disappointment. This absence shifts the spotlight onto Jeremy Williams, Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, and newcomer Josh Canham, who are now vying for Skelton’s spot in the lineup.

Veteran back-rower Pete Samu also makes a return, filling in for the injured Langi Gleeson. Samu's recent stint with Bordeaux-Begles has only honed his skills, making him a player to watch in the upcoming matches. Meanwhile, Harry Wilson's inclusion after a knee injury will be crucial, as his leadership was sorely missed in the recent loss to the Boks.

The downside hits hard with injuries plaguing several players, including Dylan Pietsch, Ben Donaldson, and Tom Wright, whose absences will undoubtedly impact the team's strategy and depth. Furthermore, Aidan Ross finds himself sidelined post-Alaalatoa’s recall, delaying his Wallabies debut yet again.

Schmidt, set to pass the coaching baton to Les Kiss post-tournament, has his eyes set on ending his tenure on a high note. "Building a competitive spirit within the squad has been pivotal," Schmidt noted, acknowledging the strides made in team performance despite numerous challenges.

As the Wallabies gear up for their face-off against Los Pumas, the mix of returning veterans and emerging talents will be key to navigating the highs and lows of international rugby, setting the stage for a fiercely contested Rugby Championship.
