A total bugger-up in team selection caused a loss to SA. Herman is not a number 3 batter - which Mulder is. Ngidi and Mphaka failed as bowlers - but still worse a performance of Van der Dussen and Hemdriks. Both of the latter are way past their sell-bye dates,

South Africa made three changes to the side that beat Zimbabwe in their T20I tri-series opener two days ago. Left-arm spinning allrounder Senuran Muthusamy was handed a debut, replacing legspinner Nqaba Peter. Fast bowlers Gerald Coetzee and Kwena Maphaka returned to the XI, taking the places of Andile Simelane and Nandre Burger.
Coetzee is playing his first match in nine months after recovering from groin and hamstring injuries. His return follows that of Burger, who featured in the previous game.
New Zealand, sent in to bat first, also handed out a debut cap to Bevon Jacobs—the South African-born power-hitter who has played in both the IPL and ILT20. Regulars Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, and Rachin Ravindra were unavailable for selection due to their participation in the MLC final over the weekend.
The match marks the first outing for New Zealand’s new coach Rob Walter, who previously led South Africa’s white-ball teams as recently as March. Walter, who guided South Africa to the T20 World Cup final last year, left his role early to return closer to his adopted home in New Zealand. Shukri Conrad has since taken over as South Africa's white-ball coach, overseeing Monday's win over Zimbabwe in his first match in charge. South Africa are fielding a rotated squad in this series, resting several frontline players.
