What option is better?

For me Willemse has to be at 12 on the EOYT so which backline option is better?

15 Kolbe 14 Edwil 13 Moodie 12 Willemse 11 Arendse 10 Sacha 9 Williams

or

15 Moodie 14 Kolbe 13 Hooker 12 Willemse 11 Arendse 10 Sacha 9 Williams

Not sure why Willemse was playing XV for the Stormers over the weekend.

He should be combing with Sasha at 10/12, to build the combination.

Exactly - it was so irritating seeing him at 15 for the Stormers, especially considering they had Nel at 12 who usually plays 13 and Similane at 13 who had a good game at 15 the week before

So surely Willemse at 12, Nel at 13 and Similane at 15

The sooner Gelant returns from injury the better as he will slot back in at 15

Willemse is 27, 47 caps for the boks and 100 for the Stormers.

For the boks he has been used as a 15, sometimes and half a game at 12. His line break when he started at 12 came actually when he shifted to 15.

He was great there a couple of seasons ago when the Stormers won the URC with Gelant at 15 and Manie at 10. Nel was playing 13 at the time.

So he can play 12 definitely and the boks need to decide now along with the Stormers his best position.

I still think for the boks we should keep him at 15. Especially the way Rassie team is playing.

The Stormers can try him and Sasha in the 10 and 12 axis.

But what I hear about is play is that he doesn't play to a purpose. He always grabs the ball with both hands, almost does a jump and then tries to beat the defender and then if he gets contact tries to off load. Sometimes if he is at 15 he'll kick it. He doesn't have that DNA to link at 12. He will always try to step and to me that becomes predictable and it breaks down the back line play

Everything Willemse did after he moved to fullback that was of value - the try assist and try he scored was from the position of 12 not fucking 15.

So what he did before initiating those positive bits of play was to slip back into the 12 position, it was never from back at fullback

Now hopefully this is the last fucking time I have to educate someone on what actually transpired

Only a fucking rugby noob would still want him at 15 for the Boks after what he did against NZ and what we then saw from him at 15 against the Argies - it was chalk and cheese

I'd prefer to see AE at 12 but am just as curious to see Willemse given an extended run at 12 to finally nail down his best position. Also I do think Arendse is the better 15 between Kolbe and himself.

The problem isn't Willemse at 15.

...it's coaches not brining him into the game correctly/enough from there.

But it's all pointless because the game is so much tighter and there ain't no space for stepping at 12.

Hooker is the very long term 12 though. He has to be.

His size/skill ratio looks like its off the charts and he has plenty of gas, as evidenced by his try this past weekend. Importantly, his calmness is perfectly suited to 12 too.

I could argue for 10 Sacha 12 Hooker 13 Willemse 15 Fassi

Feel like we shouldn't forget about Fassi. Granted, there are reports that he lokes a toot.

I haven't forgotten Weekend Special but I believed this selection was for the Autumn Internationals.

If everyone was fit, ja I'd have Fassi at 15 and Arendse at 11/14 with Kolbe. I'd still start Willemse at 12 and then Hooker could become the bench "utility" as he covers centers and wing (Arendse/Kolbe/Willemse to 15 or Willemse to 10).

Hooker could very well be the next great Bok 12 given time in the squad. No need to rush him into the 12 yet. What's his distribution, boot, 2nd receiver and playmaker at international level going to look like?

Spot on Xavi, except there is no point in investing in AE at 12 now - he turns 32 in a few months

It has to be Willemse at 12 now and only at 12 we need to stop messing him around - not another Frans Steyn clone

13 is up for grabs - I like Moodie at 13 but he has Jurenzo Julius and Henco v Wyk breathing down his neck.

Hooker is primarily a 12 but with Willemse locking that position in he is obviously a very viable option at 13 who can also slot in at 12

Fassi is our best fullback but we need to invest in a backup - Jordan Hendrikse for me but Horn and Tyrone Green are options but I’m not that big a fan of little guys at fullback - I prefer the two of them on the wing

David Kriel is a very viable option as back up at 15 - he is the one guy we should be grooming as our Bok utility back - he is at home at 12,13, wing and 15
