The Blitzboks are teetering on the brink of their most successful season yet, and as they prepare for their next big challenge in Valladolid, Coach Philip Snyman emphasizes that victory lies in the details. With the regular season SVNS series potentially in the bag and a shot at clinching the three-tournament World Championship, the stakes couldn't be higher for South Africa's rugby sevens squad.

This weekend, the Blitzboks are set to further their quest for glory at Estadio Jose Zorrilla, riding high off their triumphant start at the World Championship's opening leg in Hong Kong. With the season's climax looming in Bordeaux, the South African team is not leaving anything to chance. They face a rigorous schedule with two Pool A matches on Friday—a face-off with Great Britain followed by a clash with Kenya, and a crucial game against Australia on Saturday.

"There is no doubt that we will need our best performance of the season to be successful here this weekend,"

Snyman has laid out a clear strategy focusing on individual performance and cohesive team play. The coach's mantra is about zeroing in on specifics, a tactic he believes will amplify their strengths. "We have identified certain focus points and how to make them smaller by zooming into them. One of those is to focus on ourselves and what we need to do, and not the opponents as such," Snyman explained.

The blend of seasoned campaigners and fresh talent in the squad has created a dynamic team environment, poised for success. Every player's contribution is crucial, and with thorough preparations under their belt, the team is confident yet cautious. Snyman insists on a fresh mindset for each game, particularly stressing the importance of their opening match against Great Britain.

"We know what we are capable of, but this will still require a fresh start for this tournament and for that matter, we do not look past the opening match against Great Britain."

The only training session of the week, held on Tuesday, was a critical moment for the team to shake off any lingering jet lag and align their focus towards the upcoming challenges. With the team in good spirits, the anticipation is palpable, but as Snyman notes, it all starts with Great Britain.
