Sharks coach JP Pietersen is all in on Jurenzo Julius, aka the 'Boogieman', after his explosive hat-trick performance against Benetton. With the Sharks' season not living up to expectations, Pietersen is confident Julius will dazzle again in their final clash of the Vodacom URC season against Zebre at Kings Park this Saturday.
At just 22, Julius turned heads last week by scoring three times in the Sharks' 46-7 rout of Benetton, showcasing his potential as one of South Africa's most promising talents. "Jurenzo’s obviously had a few setbacks – some injuries and some niggles that’ve held him back – but geez, how good was he on Saturday?" Pietersen remarked about his young star's recent display.
"He was good on the ball both on defence and attack and his workrate off the ball was very good. Probably one of Jurenzo’s best performances of the season and obviously André [Esterhuizen] compliments him well in terms of communication and organisation."
Pietersen continued, "I’m just happy for the kid, hope he goes on to score four tries this weekend and just be Jurenzo."
The Sharks are also celebrating the inclusion of several of their young players in Rassie Erasmus' latest Springbok alignment camp. Pietersen expressed his pleasure at seeing Zekhethelo Siyaya among those called up, after just three games. "All I did was give him the opportunity to show us what he’s capable of, and credit to him for working hard and taking his opportunity," Pietersen praised.
Along with Siyaya, Jaco Williams and Emmanuel Tshituka have also been recognized for their performances. "It’s special to see what Zekhethelo Siyaya has done in three games," Pietersen said. "Jaco Williams is there with him, also a special kid. It’s good for them to get recognition. Hopefully they stay on and kick on for their national duties."
As the Sharks prepare to close out their season, all eyes will be on Julius and his teammates to deliver a performance befitting their burgeoning reputations, offering a glimpse of a brighter future for the franchise.
