The Junior Boks are revving up their engines with a few familiar faces returning to the fold for the U20 International Series in the picturesque settings of Cape Town and Stellenbosch. Riding high from their triumph at the Sanzaar U20 Rugby Championship in Gqeberha, the team is now bunkered down at the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport, strategizing for incoming clashes with teams from Chile, Fiji, and Georgia.
A boost to the squad's morale, flyhalf Vusi Moyo is back after debuting in the Vodacom URC for the Sharks. He’s not the only Shark circling back into the pool; club mate and versatile back Luan Giliomee, along with Bulls powerhouse hooker Siphosethu Mnebelele, are also slotting back into their boots. Both Giliomee and Mnebelele missed the Rugby Championship due to injuries but are now fit for fight. The recovery ward has emptied further with prop Kai Pratt (Sharks), loose forward Vuyo Gwiji (Lions), and Bulls centres Pieter van der Merwe and Christian Vorster also declared battle-ready.
"Seeing the smiles on those who have rejoined the camp after completing their injury rehabilitation says a lot,"
expressed Junior Boks coach Kevin Foote.
"We are very glad to have them back with us."
The Junior Boks are slated to kick off their series against Chile this Thursday. The games are set to unfold at three historic schools known for breeding rugby talent: Rondebosch Boys’ High, Wynberg Boys’ High, and Paul Roos Gymnasium. The full fixture list promises a thrilling lineup, starting with Georgia squaring off against Fiji, followed by the hosts' match against Chile.
As the stage is set for these young titans to clash, the return of key players is bound to inject an extra dose of excitement into the series. The Junior Boks, with their bolstered ranks, look more formidable than ever as they prepare to defend their turf and showcase the rich rugby pedigree that South Africa is known for.
