Wallabies standout Len Ikitau has hinted at a possible return to Exeter Chiefs in 2027, following a season marked by both challenges and cherished moments at Sandy Park. Currently on a year-long sabbatical from the Brumbies, Ikitau's time in England has been a mix of recovery from a shoulder injury and on-field success, endearing him to fans with his performance.

Despite his obligations to Rugby Australia and the Brumbies, where his contract concludes at the end of 2027, Ikitau is nurturing the idea of rejoining the Chiefs post-World Cup. "I've got a contract to go back to in Australia next season, but looking towards 2027, there's a potential chance of coming back if things fall into place," Ikitau shared. His openness to a return is fueled by the warm reception and strong bonds formed during his tenure with the team. "I’ve loved my time here, I’ve really enjoyed it and my family have really enjoyed it. Hopefully, this isn’t the end," he added.

"It's just about sitting back, waiting and hoping it all falls into place"

Rob Baxter, Director of Rugby at Exeter Chiefs, echoed Ikitau’s sentiments, highlighting informal discussions about a future collaboration. "We’ve had brief conversations," Baxter revealed. He acknowledged the complexities due to recent signings but expressed a strong desire to have Ikitau back. "He’s really enjoyed his time here, and without doubt, if it’s something we can look to do in the future, I don’t think I’ll have any of the coaching team saying they wouldn’t like to get him back. I’m pretty certain they would."

Ikitau’s potential return is not just a matter of contractual logistics but also of fitting into a dynamically evolving team roster. With new talents emerging and recruits arriving, the strategic fit will be key. Nevertheless, Ikitau remains hopeful, driven by the positive experiences and connections he’s made at Sandy Park. "It’s been going on behind the scenes with my manager," he noted, emphasizing his proactive approach to exploring future possibilities with the Chiefs.

As the current season advances towards its climax, Ikitau focuses on the immediate games ahead, cherishing the opportunity to create more memories with his teammates. His journey at Exeter may pause soon, but the door for a return remains ajar, inviting possibilities for another chapter with the Chiefs in the landscapes of English rugby.
