Hendricks out for 11 runs from 26 balls - what a poor start by the Proteas.  After 9 overs they are  30/1

Well this ODI was won and lost by the first three bats. Roy and Bairstow exploded, with Bairstow at a 183 strike rate. And Root then  followed up at a 94 strike rate.

The Proteas by contrast were plodding...Henrichs failed and Bavuma plodded along at a 67 rate. And de Ock after being beaten time and again by Curran....scored at an 85 rate, disappointing for our supposedly most explosive bat. Captaincy seems to be inhibiting him.

So despite Millar’s pyrotechnics and the Pom near implosion....the game was lost. And we are still looking for the new talent.

No  Mozart the game was lost by poor bowling.  In the first two overs Ngidi gave away 32 runs and Hendriks in his first three gave away 28 runs - that equals to 12 runs per over.

As to batting - Hendricks was out for 7 runs made from 14 balls,   Bavuma made too low a total number of runs and Van der Dyssen failed as well,   So did Smuts    So both the bowling and batting imploded.   Once two batsmen made 138 runs and the rest combined made 118 the team was doomed to lose,

de Kock is doing a good job - is playing a more measured game. Good on him Unfortunately the rest of the bats are crap bar the hard hitting Miller at 6 and Bavuma to a lesser extent. Then our tail after Andile is far too long Hendricks, Rassie and Smuts are just shit

We all acknowledge that Bavuma has talent but although he has scored runs in Test cricket he appears to be in the same boat as Elton.

Just not able to deliver constantly at the international level.

Many a player in sport has failed to perform at test level so is it because of the level and intensity between provincial and international levels or what?

As the Proteas have been struggling to get a reliable opening pair the guy coming in to bat at #3 and #4 have had to accept additional pressure which could also be an issue.

Watched the 20/20 game last night and Bavuma appeared to be comfortable at-bat and played some excellent shots.

I agree with the Quinton comment.
