I'm getting more and more respect for Australian sportsmen/women , including Olympics, Swimming and Tennis...they understand sport and do better under pressure than Saffas...NZ too, a small country...dominant in rugby and probably the winner of this cricket accolade...not to mention a tiny island Sri Lanka...3 WC cricket finals including one win....so far.

England, France and SA with all their background and sporting stock...inconsistent and unpredictable these days.

Maybe it's just because of complexities and too much diversions that exist in these countries too but I'm inclined to think heart and structures in these countries are sometimes lacking.

Technically we're up there with the best....IMHO it's a lack of self belief.

Smithy was technically flawed but he never lacked determination....he never gave his wicket away.

Same can be said of Steve Waugh, he had no natural talent but he had true grit, ended up doing better than his extremely talented brother, Mark.

You could be right Denny, I've thought of it too...maybe the complexities of this question (bare in mind I'm talking of sport in general)...cricket it might very well apply. Aussies are very confident...so are the Americans in unrelated sports, like tennis, olympics and swimming...Yanks love winners...that's why they don't take up new and foreign sports like rugby union or cricket but stick to Redneck sports like Grid Iron and Baseball where they excel and only with themselves...tennis, they buy players, the twin sisters are an exception...their size, affluence and climate give a GOOD HELPING HAND AS WELL.

But the Yanks have self confidence, not a bad thing when it's tapered with a little bit of humility which they sadly lack.

This psychological aspect of sport is complex...Australia seems to have a very balanced view...perhaps there's nothing else to do except, surfing and Aussie rules (a very boring and stupid game)...the pretty Sheilas are few too....

."...the pretty Sheilas are few too..." Huh?...think Kylie you Bat!

Tell me Seba.....if you don't believe in yourself then how can you expect anyone else to believe in you?

Ozzies exude confidence in every aspect of their lives and building that confidence starts at a very early age. I know, I see it everyday, even if the bassteward is wrong he still says it with confidence. But they're smart as well, for a non rugby nation they've done alright to have 2 RWCups under their belt. Rich success in cricket/ Swimming and Tennis and let's not forget they were the first nation to win the America;s Cup off the Yanks.

Hey, read my mail...I never said they don't exist but are few...no wonder they take to physical exercise to settle testosterone issues, ask Cleancut.

Also I said, nothing wrong with confidence as long as it is blended with a good dose of humility

You guys jump too quickly to programmed conclusions...dear Ol' Maaik does it...just old age

He calls Mozart a liar, when there's misunderstanding and misinterpretation, well that's the way I see it.

Saffex too, jumps to faulty conclusions...thank heavens he was not a defence lawyer but a pen pusher in a legal office doing conveyancy work.

If only we would give up all these inferior codes and concentrate on Rugby Union things  would improve in Oz. The density of attractive women may also increase though I am struggling to find a link. Seb from an ugly mans perspective, (mine), our women are just fine.
