Bavuma as Captain

After Bvuma became captain of the Protea limited overs team they played twos eries in which he was captain., namely 

*     the T20I series against the West Indies; and\

*     the ODI series against Ireland.   

The T20I series was won by the Proteas - the Irish series an inglorious drraw.   

So lets look at the performances as a batsman of Bavuma;-\

*     T20i series (5 matches)    =    76 runs scored   -=    Average   =    13,2

*    ODI series                        =    13 runs scored     =    Average   =     6,5

Is it worthwhile to have  captain with problems as a batsman?????????????

His ship has sailed...he had too many chances already...now he's just an embarrassment...sad, but that's how it is...black South African batsmen are a myth...until a real one emerges, it will remain a joke if they want to force a sub-par bat on us.

Imagine what Amla, Smith, Kallis and AB would have done to Ireland.

By the way Mozart - Amla's highest score  against Ireland in an  ODI was 159  -  Janneman Malan beat that record by scoring 177 not out.    No credit for Malan on that one?  

De Kock also beat the record of  Smith in that regard - though he actually only played in one match.  So far in his career De Kock showed that he is a much better batsman in shorter versions of the game than Smith ever was.  The latter's strike rate  in ODI's was  80,81 compared to De Kock's 95,47.   Smith in his career only made 10 centuries in ODI's as against  16 by De Kock.   

On the other hand it must be borne in mind that Kallis's strike rate in ODI's  of 72,89  were comparatively low  compared to  other batsmen  - his value in that component of the game was  more in being an all-rounder than as a batsman. 

it is always easy to make statements like you did  since it is based on personal opinion rather than factual.      The problem here is that  the team selection and coaching at this stage are   the real problems and in this particular case of Bavuma as captain.   On the whole I do  think that is where the problem in fact is and  that statement by me has been thoroughly substantiated. by what happened over the last two years.                      

Tell us about de Kock as captain, did you predict he’d be  a success?

De Kock did not want to be captain of the losing teams selected - like other players he became totally demoralized and that is a fact.   Who wants to be captain of shit teams selected  and then be blamed for the losses?  The same happened to the players when  Coetzee  was  the Springbok coach.         

Ag shame your leader was demoralized…..you crowed when he was made captain and he flopped horribly.Quite possibly the worst captain in Protea history, but your enthusiastic pick.

I never picked him as captain - and nobody should be forced to be captain and that happened after De Kock declined the captaincy and was  forced to be captain.   You are doing exactly what i said - being captain of the shit teams elected would be blamed on the captain when they lose.   The issue here has nothing to do with captaincy anyway -it has everything to do with batting performances by players.

By the way the short-lived captaincy of Klaasen  in Pakistan was the worst ever one  - even Boucher afterwards said it was a mistake.   

As to demoralized players - what happened to the Springboks when your enthusiastically supported Coetzee was coach.    All the players became demoralized - and that is a fact as well.    Everyone was surprised that there was such a huge upward trend when Erasmus started to work with the players and the reason for their success was largely due to the removal of the coach.

There are incredible idiots like you who when cornered  make libelous and unproven allegations at members.    As per normal Klaasen was captain in Pakistan and never won anything.   You were told imbecile that De Kock refused the captaincy repeatedly and was forced into it.   Why did he refused the captaincy - because the team selection was shit.   

if there were any sanity in selection for the Proteas Van Tonder should have been in the team  years ago - but there was none over the past two years and we are surprised that the Proteas are not even provincial class anymore.

Bavuma is not the problem, he is a part of the problem, the main problem is Boucher. Not sure why Mike is the only one to recognize that Boucher as the national coach is a plonker who fills his squad with other plonkers. The talent is there, Jannneman Malan is an example of what could be if he selected the right players but instead he fumbles around propping up losers like Klaaaasen, Reeza Hendricks, Beuran Hendricks, David Miller, Magala......the list goes on. Boucher doesn't even know his best starting line-up. It's too late now, if he'd given the team a fighting chance they could have made the semi finals as it stands they need a miracle.

Why don't you add to that list also Pieter Malan, JJ Smuts and  Pite van Biljon as well.   At one stage the selection of new players - stated being young players - were all  28  or older. and then Boucher had the audacity to call them young players.             ,
