Much is made of the huge run chase that may have been asked if not for the rain. But we won the toss which in a Proteas game always helps. At the end of the day both teams had their chances and the last seven overs were absolutely up for grabs. It was a question of bottle.
NZ had more. The Proteas blew two simple run outs....one with a poor throw from Rossouw at AB's toes. The other with a terrible blunder by de Kock on the runout. Then there was the Duminy charge into Behardien to kill the catch. If any of those not difficult chances were taken the result could have been reversed.
Finally our premier strike bowler produced an awful over as NZ still had 2 runs per ball to get in the last over . A great game but in the end Ellioott had the guts to see it through. And McCullum's assault on our openers has to go down as one of the game's epic innings. Boult also gets best bowler honours in my view.
