I'm posting this here because even though it has nothing to do with rugby or the Cricket World Cup, I'd like to pay some respects to South Africa's greatest ever racehorse, the mighty Horse Chestnut who passed away last Thursday after heart failure.

Who knows what this phenomenal equine athlete could have achieved but for a cannon bone injury that tragically ended his career in January 2000 and prevented him taking part in the Arlington Million that year?

For those of us who saw him win the SA Triple Crown without breaking a sweat or coasting home by 8 lengths in the J&B Met as a 3 year old, he was and always will be the greatest.

A great champion... with the the likes of Persian Wonder (that sired champions when 22 yrs old) Red Rum, Secretariat,Man O' War, Seabiscuit,Nijinsky, Black Caviar and Sir Ivor and other legend racing champions.

I'm a great lover of horses...not only Thoroughbreds but Arabs and Boereperde too...in fact all.

Very sad.

Phenomenal creature.

We were privileged to be alive during his life time.
