SB
I picked it up i n news24 - no reason given though. Maybe she wanted to go back to Ireland and he wanted to engage in cricket commentary.

Very sad. I hope they can be mature about it and work something out for to least disrupt the kids and not make them pawns. Sorry Graeme I was really hoping this would work. Sadly not to be. Now you can come back to open the batting in tests again!

What sad news.
Its never nice when 2 people get divorced.
Very said indeed.... especially with kids involved.
...Maybe Db is right, Smith is only 33.... he could still do another 4 - 5 years in tests.
I always felt he called it a bit early. (possibly due to marriage)

I never liked him, apparently it took his wife three years to figure out why. A head so big that it could rival that of Frans Steyn.

Apparently the latest news is that his wife walked out on him because she wants a full caree r. There were trouble already before his retirement and Smith tried to save his marriage by being more available - but it did not help.

@clever, where do you get your info bro?
Its somethign that i can never work out, surely as an engaged couple you discuss what you want to get out of your marriage... what you want to do with your future... etc etc..
My wife and I discussed it on many occasions before we tied the knot.
Why 3 years later does the lady decide to get a divorce cos she wants a full career? did they not discuss their future plans?
If she was the reason that Smith pulled out of the oven at 32, then fuck her!
He was still a fantastic test batsman, and I'd welcome him back anytime.
Lets not be too short sighted and nto forget how many games he won for us. He has the most 100's in 4th innings in tests, no mean feat.
Hell he'd be better than stiaan or peterson!

Chippo
It came from an article and a statement made by a family member. Try Supersport or news24 - it will be on either or both.
With respect - I differ from you about Smith returning to cricket. I think he can still play on provincial level, but on national level he fails too often. Was a great player, but I am afraid he is past tense.

Who is better than him at the moment?
19 Feb 2015, 15:27#16
Ah but Mike, she has denied she left him, denied the stories about the reasons the so-called friends and family have given to the media for the divorce and said she will speak in her own time.
So maybe just wait for that ?
Regardless, there are now two more little kids, tiny ones in this case, in the world, without a proper family to grow up in
19 Feb 2015, 19:46#18
You know what, Mike ? I think that it's just a terrible shame when children are involved in any of this sort of thing. I just hope the adults behave as such, although most people seem not to be able to do that, do they So many of my friends seem incapable of staying married ! I just don't know what has gone wrong with the world....and, by and large, they are all so miserable now.
In some ways I suppose I should be glad no-one wanted me

I'll take you!

19 Feb 2015, 21:59#20
You're being naughty now, Chippo !

Once you go black, you won't go back.
