The Proteas fancy the short, wide long hop because they fear their yorkers may be squeezed for 4. Why risk a 4 when you can risk a 6...

In the last 6 balls we had
Two fielders running into each other to spill a catch
Two byes run easily off balls which went comfortably to the wicket keeper
A full toss at thigh height two feet outside the off stump.
A short of a length ball comfortably 18 inches outside the off stump.
A complete melt down by bowler and fielders. And camp followers want to claim it was just bad luck.

Just can't fathom that two experienced campaigners like Steyn and AB could think that Elliott on 78 would be more likely to squeeze a yorker for a boundary than making a short ball disappear. And that was their thinking in AB's own words. He was "moving around the crease" so they thought they'd surprise him with a short one. And in typical Protea denial fashion they still believe it was the right ball to bowl, even though it went for 6. Just like Domingo still insists Philander was 100% fit even though he couldn't even finish the game.
