The following sides have been announced:-

Faf du Plessis (Titans, capt), Temba Bavuma (Highveld Lions, vice-capt), Theunis de Bruyn (Titans), Quinton de Kock (Titans), Dean Elgar (Titans), Zubayr Hamza (Cape Cobras), Keshav Maharaj (Dolphins), Aiden Markram (Titans), Senuran Muthusamy (Dolphins), Lungi Ngidi (Titans), Anrich Nortje (Warriors), Vernon Philander (Cape Cobras), Dane Piedt (Cape Cobras), Kagiso Rabada (Highveld Lions), Rudi Second (Knights)

Proteas T20I squad v India:

Quinton de Kock (Titans, capt), Rassie van der Dussen (Highveld Lions, vice-capt), Temba Bavuma (Highveld Lions), Junior Dala (Titans), Bjorn Fortuin (Highveld Lions), Beuran Hendricks (Highveld Lions), Reeza Hendricks (Highveld Lions), David Miller (Dolphins), Anrich Nortje (Warriors), Andile Phehlukwayo (Dolphins), Dwaine Pretorius (Highveld Lions), Kagiso Rabada (Highveld Lions), Tabraiz Shamsi (Titans), Jon-Jon Smuts (Warriors)

I am amazed  that they could find a place for some duds in the test side - but they left out Van der Dussen,   Too much pandering up to the quotas and not to merit selection.  I would pick Van der Dussen ahead of Dean Elgar anyway,

Anyway nice to see that Quinton is the captain of the T20I side.    He as o\the third best batsman ion the recent IPL - so he knows the Indian conditions well.

You can’t replace Elgar with Rassie as Rassie is not an opener. Rassie has a crap technique so my guess is that he would be exposed at test level

Teams look like they are in a bad way.

Dave

Van der Dussen was opening batsman for the Highveld Lions for at least four years,  Beside that Edgar has a much worse technique than Van der Dussen,

I am delighted Hamza is I the squad - he is a top class promising batsman.

Safesex Regardless... van der dussen still warrants a spot. He’s scored enough runs in ODIs to warrant at least a look in.

Dean Elgar has the worst technique of any opening batsmen I've ever seen, there's hardly any backlift, zero strokeplay and a tendency to use the pace of the ball with a short b unt to score runs. His strategy is one of accumulation of runs by survival. As a test cricketer he is an embarrassment.

His strike rate and average in Test and ODI speak for itself..

Average38.7717.33--Strike rate45.2958.76

How many times did Edgar failed in tests over the last 18 moths compared to where he scored runs? at best 50:50 chance in his case.

It would be nice if I knew what you're saying.
