Cricket in SA started going backwards earlier - but the present crunch started in 2015 when before the quarter-final in 2015 the coach were forced to change the team and bring in an injured player as a bowler because of the refrmation program - representing the quota formulae of SA Cricket.
From there it deteriorated badly and the 2019 CWC was a total disgrace based on player selection. In the meantime De Villiers after the 2015 chaos decided to not play international cricket in future,
Over the last two years SA Cricket was a total disgrace from mismanagement and dishonesty and the situation went from bad to worse, Standard Bank stopped their sponsorship of the Proteas since they do not want to be seen near an organization as incompetent and dishonest the SA Cricket organization became,
In any event the above is all history and public knowledge. In a desperate measure to hae cricket recovered from the problems that near to destroy it on international level following the example of Rugby and .
* appointed Graeme Smith as Director of Cricket; and
* Mark Boucher as Head Coach of the Proteas.
Whereas Rugby and Cricket were at cross-roads by the beginning of 2018 - Rugby under the brilliant Erasmus went forward and is now the no 1 team in the world in the rugby ratings. A brilliant team won the 2019 RWC, In the case the rot was not cleared up and under Graeme Smith and Boucher the position in fact deteriorated,
What happened now should disqualify SA from international participation for years to come, After near to total isolation - a number of SA players took part in the IPL and did very well. However, most players did not participate and some were poor in the IPL. After lifting the ban on cricket games - the English agreed to send a squad of players to play 3 T20I's and 3 ODI's against the Proteas, All six games were supposed to be played in Cape Town and Paarl.
The three T20I games were last week and the Proteas was a disgrace and lost all three games, The real reason is that the squad selected for the two series included 22 players and some gross failures of the past, However, it is the process which in the first instance led to the announcement of the 22 member squad that failed horribly. Before the announcement all players should have been tested for Covid 19 and only cleared players should have been in the squad, It apparently was not done properly,
On Friday the first ODI was supposed to be played and was postponed to today. The reason given was that one of the SA players were found to be positive and was supposed to be played today. The fact is that two of the staff at the hotel where most players were stationed was tested and may be positive.
The present SAC management will nit be able to organize a piss-up in a brewery - leave alone international games,
