After the Under 19 game against Afghanistan Supersport realize the SA team is BS and is not broadcasting the present game.  Neither is SABC.

However, after 35 over the score is 206/3.  Three of the batsmen were totally poor and of the runs made.   The scecard is as follows:-

Bird     -     54 runs    -   47 balls

Louw   -       6 runs    -   17 balls

Parsons -   109 runs   -   86 balls - not out

Beaufort -    31 runs   -   50 balls

Karelse   -     7 runs    -   12 balls - not out

The bowling was kak - but s is the SA Bowling.  Coetzee is not playing.  The Canadians are 60/2 after 9 overs and the SA Bowlers used are SHIT.

Oh no!

Canada playing cricket is as bad as it could possibly get, unfortunately.

AJH

The best Canadian batsman is a youngster by the name of Benjamin Calitz.  That is not a very common surname - but quite common in SA.  He was borne in Vancouver where the family still lives - wonder whether his father was from South Africa ?

I watched both of our games.

What I took out of it was;

  1. We do have 2 or 3 really good players who could go on to bigger things.
  2. Coetzee was great in the first game. A good all round prospect.
  3. Jonno Bird looks like he has the right temprament and a good technique. Could go on to open for the Proteas.
  4. Parsons looks good too. He scored a hundred yesterday (albeit against Canada).
  5. Our keeper also looks like he has a good bat.

the problem is, they're all non BEE.

The rest look bog average.

In saying that... when we won the U19 a few years ago with Markram and Rabada... the rest also looked fairly ordinary. After we lost 3 wickets, the rest of the batting was poor.

So i dont think we should read into the future of SA cricket based on this average looking side.

David,

Yeah... though van Tonder is a shoe in for the Proteas in the next year or so. He really looks like a good prospect.

See if each U19 team produces 1 really good player each year.... SA cricket will be fine!
