Maybe he is a bit of a cheat, but one has to admire this latest innings after being felled by the Archer bumper earlier in the series. A bit of the old Aussie, never say die, spirit. Something our sportsmen, and especially our cricketers, rarely exhibit.
And the cricketing gods seem to have decided Smith has done his penance. A top edge found the only bit of open space and in the very next over he edged to slip, only to get a no ball reprieve.
Still he handled Archer with so much time to spare, not an easy thing facing 90 mph deliveries.

Smith is a freak. He has redefined the art of batting. He must be the only player able to rigidly adhere to his regime. He keeps it simple he refrains from any shots or areas of weakness and plays to his strengths. Seems to be able to cut out those impulsive shots. A test average close to 65 - wow.
What makes it that more amazing is that he is so ugly to watch. There is no sublime stroke play or technical masterclass - it’s all awkward and fidgety
