T20I World Cup 2021 - Proteas squad

The following squad has been selected for the WC to be played in the UAE as from 16 October 2021:-

 Temba Bavuma (captain, Lions), Keshav Maharaj (Dolphins), Quinton de Kock (wicketkeeper, Titans), Bjorn Fortuin (Lions), Reeza Hendricks (Lions), Heinrich Klaasen (Titans), Aiden Markram (Titans), David Miller (Dolphins), Wiaan Mulder (Lions), Lungi Ngidi (Titans), Anrich Nortje (Warriors), Dwaine Pretorius (North West Dragons), Kagiso Rabada (Lions), Tabraiz Shamsi (Titans), Rassie van der Dussen (Lions)

Travelling reserves: Andile Phehlukwayo (Dolphins), George Linde (Western Province), Lizaad Williams (Titans) 

Faf du plessis has been left out a he has had virtually no cricket for months as he had a concussion problem.   it is unlikely that he will be considered for future games for he Proteas.

I do not understand the Bavuma issue either.   He was injured and was operated on over the weekend  with a recovery period of 4 weeks - which would end about 8 days before the start of the WC.    No game time and a flop is inevitable.   A back-up in the frm of Malan should have at least been in the travelling squad - but he is not included.   

I do not think the squad would reach any of the play-off stages,   Will be extremely lucky t end up in the top 7 teams on the log.   There are way too many weaknesses in the squad to be effectiv as a unit.     

I'll be fair in my shakedown of the squad.

There are 7 specialized batsmen....neither a plus or a minus, the big minus is the absence of Janneman Malan. Another minus is the batting lacks a couple of 20/20 specialists. Miller is a serial failure at WC's. It's hard to treat this lot with any confidence based on past history.

3 Spinners.....Fortuin is a dud, Maharaj and Shamsi select themselves, Linde should have been the obvious pick.

4 Allrounders.....a minus. Pretorius, Foolaquake-ou are duds and surplus to requirements. 

3 Quicks ......obvious picks.

Coach......clueless.

Leadership.....Zero in Bavuma but Maharaj has the dressing room until Bavuma takes over.
