....shows how premature the rumours of his demise, have been: 'Amla was 14 runs away from yet another hundred as he fought to keep Hampshire in the game against Somerset in the County Championship. He ended day three of the match on 86, consolidating his position as the top run-scorer in Division One of the championship with 471 runs from nine innings, which included a century in a losing cause against Nottinghamshire last time out. His four in the first innings of this match was his only single-figure ‘failure’, but he made up for that with a fighting stand with James Vince. They put on 139 as Hampshire sought to negate Somerset’s innings of 506, which had given them a lead of 275. Still, Hampshire trail by 97. Amla’s 471 championship runs, almost 50 ahead of second-placed Ollie Pope of Surrey, have included four fifties and a hundred, at an average of almost 59. He has been signed for the first three months of the county season before he returns to South Africa to prepare for the tour to Sri Lanka in July.'

He is playing club cricket in England with most of their top bowlers playing IPL cricket in India.  Easy way to make runs in an environment where most opposing bowlers are second level players.  That makes this contribution one of the most ridiculous ever.   . .

"Easy way to make runs in an environment where most opposing bowlers are second level players"

Then why didn't Amla's teammates do likewise?

Most are in India or out with injuries - so what else is  new.   Amla could not get an IPL contract  at all.

County cricket is a lessor form of the game. Amla is getting on and finding the going harder each year. Father time cannot be denied too much longer.

I was waiting to see if ou Maaikie was going to be corrected but alas.... So, the reality is this: First of all. The IPL is T20 wanabee cricket. The County Championship is a first class competition. (First-class cricket is an official classification of the highest-standard international or domestic matches in the sport of cricket). Secondly there are a total of 12 players from England playing in the IPL. That is 12 in total. Not 12 bowlers. There are more CLUBS playing in the County Championship (18) than there are English PLAYERS playing in the IPL (12). That is less than one player from each club playing in the IPL. Ou Maaikie’s dreams are once again treated very unkindly by the facts.

Actually he is better off playing in the county league and getting a grip on English wickets ahead of the WC. At 35 it's expected of him to slow down....and he has.
