After hitting a Henry long hop for 6, de Kock continues his WC history by holing out tamely just when the Proteas needed a solid start. Next ball Rickleton miscues to backward point….hopefully we can recover from this inept start.

Markram put down in an easy chance….that could have been the match

NZ using their seamers for the first 5 overs.__none of the starting with spin in a knockout.

Now Santner….NZ using their best. This strategy needs wickets

So the whole old guard….De Kock, Markram and Miller fail.

Stubbs and Jansen punish Nesham providing a glimmer of hope…we need 2 big final overs to have a chance and Ferguson finds the perfect first ball.

Jansen responds with a great six….effortless. And another one!

Last over fizzling with a couple of singles and Bosch bowled….now Rabada chips it and is caught. These Proteas are a different team today. With 170 on a good ground for scoring we need a lot of good fortune in the field

How about this for a moment of great sportsmanship:

’The third umpire decided to recheck the catch as it looked a bit touch-and-go. But the television umpire was delighted with the decision and felt that the fingers of the fielder were under the ball. Mitchell never claimed the catch and hinted that he was not sure, and pushed the umpires for the replay.’

Now de Kock calls off Brevis and can’t get to the catch

...and then QDK convinces Markram to review a dud!

The only positive I will be able to take from this game is a few Pounds I placed on a NZ win and only because I got excellent odds.

Absolute poor performance from the Protea top batting order.

But credit to the NZ team as they went into this semi underdogs and shocked us all.

Proteas need a spin miracle now

Our bowlers are getting no change…..Bosch joins our other 3 seamers in the dog house. Wish we had Nortje in the mix. There’s no movement perhaps some genuine pace might have made a difference.

The Proteas got clobbered and no if's about it..

Shocking loss and perhaps the largest loss in the history of a WC semi final.

Quinton who I always thought of highly needs to go back into retirement asap as do a few other players.

Well done NZ and I wish you all the best in the FINAL.

Well Arthur Quinton should always have been batting down the order. He may be a a decent opener in Vereeniging or in a nothing match against SriLanka….but in key WC matches he has been a serial failure.

In ODI WC knockout matches his average is 8.5

In T20 WC knockout matches his average is 18.3.

His scores are 14, 3, 6, 39, 10. Claimed to be our premier batsmen for much of his career, these scores speak volumes about why we have failed so often
