Australia’s big win over Bangladesh leaves us in third place. So even if we beat England on Saturday it seems Australia will advance on run rate if they beat the West Indies. Can the West Indies rise up and find their mojo? It’s hard to imagine, but I suppose not impossible.
Beating England and not advancing would be sad.
Ah well, let's see what happens...not like we're expected to win any silverware in cricket...ever.
Don't entirely disagree Dave, where we bombed our chances I think is when we lost to Oz, that loss pretty much sealed our fate. I hope they beat England. Consider this, the Australians entered the T20 WC with back to back to back series losses(4 in total) including a 1-4 embarrassing loss to Bangladesh, the Proteas on the contrary were on a roll with back to back to back series wins(3 in total). The general expectation was for the average Ozzies to lose to the Proteas and a win there would have secured their semi finals hopes but once again the Proteas choked and blundered their chances when they lost the toss and were forced to bat.
It's been a poor campaign from the Proteas, poorly led by Boucher who laid the foundation in sealing their fate by investing in super duds like Hendricks, Klaaaaaaaaassen, Pretorius, 4 spinners when 3 would have sufficed and above all the lack of an additional specialist batsman. It's not hard to imagine the feeling of hopelessness when batting with an opening partner who you know is useless. It's also a sick joke that some in the squad just came along for a free ride, players like Fortuin and Mulder never found their way into the starting lineup which goes to show that the tournament will be completed with Boucher ignorant of his best squad and team.
Boucher also unsurprisingly even managed to get the mandatory colour mix wrong, it should be 6 not 5....in a twisted way I applaud him .
Actually Dave the T20 format encourages a point based qualification for the knockouts ….in the rugby cup it usually comes down to matches won. I’d be happier with the head to head result being the tie breaker, even though in this case it would work against us.
All this assumes we can beat England which seems a tall order.
It is going to be a tall order to beat England with this squad of players.
Unfortunately once again poor selection.
Well the Proteas did what I never expected them to do.
Beat England.
No use counting on another team to win and in that way get into the semi final. Win each game and don't rely on others to help.
Today NZ beat England in a nail biting finish to secure a place in the final and hopefully face Oz in the final.
Oz against NZ I hope.
No use crying over spilled milk, but we never embarrassed ourselves...no shame in losing...it's hard, but sometimes you've got to take it on the chin.
We did about as well as we could have given our batting options and the usual de Kock WC implosion.
