While a Protea win

somewhat of a rarity these days should be enjoyed, no-one should be delusional enough to believe that their batting woes is something of the past. Put aside Markram and De Kock's combined scores which totals 2/3rds of the total team score then it's clear that nothing has changed. While excuses can be made for debutants Peterson and Verryenne as well as for the vastly inexperienced Wiaam Mulder there is absolutely none for Dean Elgar and Rassie van der Dussen.

The batting line-up remains extremely frail - that has been  problem for years  now and has not been solved at all,    I would give Petersen and Verreynne another chance - but still have doubts that the former may not turn out to be another Lubbe.

As to the issue of  Elgar - his first class average is below par  and hiss last few tests can be described  as sub-par at best =same as was the case in the last provincial match.    Was he the r ight choice as captain anyway?
