Thought Messi messed up twice, once from the penalty spot and the second in the 18th minute from close after a nice build up from Argentina. Father time? A younger Messi, with his skills would have easily scored.

The old Messi is still better than just about anyone else.

If there's one contender for best current player it's Kylian Mbappe who is up next.

Cristiano Ronaldo showing he still has some class as Portugal destroy Uzbekistan 5-0.

England vs Ghana is 0-0 half way through the first half. England have had more possession and territory but struggling to break down a gritty Ghana defence.

England were disappointing, to say the least. They played uninspired football for the first 70 minutes and only showed signs of life in the final 20. They won’t win a World Cup if they can’t dominate for most of the game; relying on a late push is a poor strategy that only piles on unnecessary pressure. But when they did they seemed to lack speed, creativity, and composure.

I'm not writing them off but they will need to have a good long think about their strategy.
