A tangible benefit of religion

A new paper by Tyler Giles of Wellesley, Daniel Hungerman of Notre Dame and Tamar Oostrom of Ohio State bolsters the case that deaths of despair stem in part from weakening social ties. It shows that mortality from these causes among middle-aged whites stopped falling around 1990—well before the rise in opioid use.

What changed at that time? The authors studied attendance at religious services. They found that states with more participation had fewer deaths of despair, and that the faster religious attendance fell in a state, the more such deaths rose. A paper in jama in 2020 also showed that of 110,000 health workers, those who went to services were less likely to die from these causes.

It's interesting to meet people in their 90s these days.Their body parts are packing in and some don't want to push on for their 100.

They exist mainly on love and care at this stage. 

Imagine working for 40 years and then 40 years of pension.. both sides can be tough in the end. 

I don't have too much trouble believing that - there is a sense of community in religion and for some people a purpose that they desperately need. Anything in this world is what we make it - religion can be a force for good or evil.

That’s my concern for humanity….how will we achieve a sense of community in a world with robots instead of religion, of AI instead of culture.

Religion reduces stresses in life and that leads to a calmer lifestyle.   The present era is affected by the Woke Culture and lack of restraint in conduct.   I believe that there are roundabout 150 000 people who died from Fentanyl use in the past year and those are basically younger people.   Drug and alcohol abuse cause early deaths and that remains a problem in the culture in the USA and Europe at present.      

I totally agree, not everything about religion is bad, it does a lot of good in this world. It the lunatic fringe that fails their religion not the general mass.

But religion is not the only answer to living a calm and peaceful life (just look at the top 10 most religious countries living standards and life expectancy.)

At the other end of the scale look at the living standards and life expectancy in the most secular countries.

I think you have to take many factors into account and not just one thing.

I am not a religious fanatic and I see the wrongs in religion as well as the advantages.    From what I have written it is clear I do not see a direct link between religion and politics.   What I do condemn is using religion to undermining freedom of people like in Muslim countries.   I think in the case of Confucius and Buddism meditating has major benefits for believers.          

What about the Christian nationalists in America trying to make Christianity  compulsory in schools and passing laws based on their books teachings?

They are no different to the Muslims.

They are trying to takeaways people's freedom just as much even though it goes directly  against the constitution  which they supposidly hold as an Americans God given right (especially the 2nd amendment to carry arms) .

I don't  see any push back from you on this issue.

Where did you get that remarks about the USA from.   I have made a study of what State legislation has passed on education and there is nothing I came across substantiating that statement of yours.   If there is a move towards that type of legislation in the USA it will be declared unconstitutional by the Courts.  The laws that were passed relates to sex discussion in primary schools. promotion of sex change activities and operations without the approval of parents and issues where children are taught to hate their parents and siblings - the latter based on a St alinist legislation in the erstwhile USSR.   There is no legislation on national level and state level of the kind of statements you made above. 

However, there are Biden Mandates never approved by the House - normal procedure - in respect of which state legislation brought in to negate the illegal and unratified Mandates.     

If you ran an A/B split test with millions of kids. 

1. Control:       1 Million kids go to church from the age of 3. 
2. Experiment: 1 Million kids go to church from the age of 18.

Barely any of the kids from the experiment would be religious.
Their "young" adult mind would reject religion, just like how the kids that attended religion from the age of 3 would reject all other religions except the one they have been indoctrinated into. 

Religion should be freedom of choice, not something that is forced upon kids with brainwashing techniques.
You need to smoke a cigarette if you are addicted and dependent on it, but that does not make cigarettes good.

Fewer people go to Church nowadays, so kids are less exposed to brainwashing techniques. Kids are making their own choices if they think religion is worthwhile or not. Also, as science progresses it is indirectly proving that the Bible is fiction, so at best it is a book that claims to offer moral guidance - not something that is factual.  

The younger generations are also rejecting the older generations' brand of conservatism. 
Conservatism will always exist, but the religious version is on its way out. 

Religion was always a good way for the right wing to get votes to win a Democratic election- but that is no longer the case with younger generations. Hence we are seeing countries like America in panic, because they see that the traditional brand of conservatism will struggle to win a Democratic election.

Another dreamed up BS story of yours.  Where and when was the survey done you quote above of the 1 million kids?   Then who is forcing children to be religious - is it the parents whom the Stalinists wants to make children hate their parents and families by teaching that in schools?   Is it the schools that according to the Biden Mandates have all kind of brainwashing measures to hate everybody bar the state and start teaching children on primary levels in sex change issues  also encouraging them to have sex-change operations without the consent of the parents - or teach them stories to hate the USA in terms of the WOKE CULTURE by teaching them unproved stories countering proven historical facts.

It is easier to brainwash children than grown-ups - but in your case it is the same as it is a 6  year-old kid.   You fall for the propaganda shit all the time.   How do you manage that?

A religious simpleton such as yourself can't tell the difference between opinion and fact.

The facts are that millennials, and even more so Generation Z are the least religious generations mankind has ever had.
The writing is on the wall, imagine the next 2 generations... (A generation is 10 years). Redneckism is on its way out... 

Religion is also extremely dangerous and can completely trap a person and lead to all sorts of problems. Rigion will NEVER save a single soul in the Judgement Day. In that sense it is worthless and a hindrance. Atheism is probably the most perverse religion. 

Thankfully Christianity is not a religion. True Christianity is about a Person, Jesus Christ the Son of God or God the Son.

Because Christ died and rise again from the dead He is alive today. His promise is that IF you seek HIM in EARNEST he will will reveal himself to you. That is totally true. 

All other religions are false and will disappear when Christ returns. At that point EVERY knee will NOW and EVERY tongue WILL CONFESS THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD TO THE GLORY OF GOD THE FATHER.  No ifs and buts about it.

 Further there is no other NAME given under Heaven or Earth whereby a man can be saved. Only Christ can save there is no other way. I am The Way, The Truth and the Life. NOBODY comes to the Father but by Me. Jesus likens Himself to a Gate. 

Now the Nations  rage and shake their first at God but the Lord has them in derision. How absurd do you get! 

The anti christ is given a brief 42 months to rule the world. We can currently see the attempts to form a world government. This will only succeed when it is the Anti Christ's time. 

After the 42 months is over Christ returns and destroys anti Christ with the brightness of His coming.
