Politicians and think tanks these days welcome the death of free markets as they support more power for the state. But a new poll from Gallup confirms that the American people still have more faith in capitalism than they do in socialism. Gallup further reports that this support for capitalism over socialism has held steady for more than a decade.

Asked in an October survey—“just off the top of your head”—whether they have a positive or negative image of six different economic and governmental terms, 60% reported “positive” for capitalism against 38% for socialism.

Gallup notes that the negative view of socialism has remained constant “even as Sen. Bernie Sanders and progressive Democratic politicians have pursued an expanded government role in addressing healthcare, poverty and early childhood education.” They might have noted that some of the push these days for more government control of economic life is coming from the political right as well.

The other positives and negatives are also revealing. “Small business” clocked in at 97% positive, and “free enterprise” at 84%. Only 46% of the public had a positive view for “big business,” which dropped from 52% in 2019.

We wonder if that’s because so many big businesses these days no longer support capitalism while stressing left-wing cultural causes. The two terms that scored lowest in public esteem were “socialism” and “the federal government,” which each had only 38% positive.

At the heart of capitalism is the idea that ordinary people profit most from their talents and effort when they are free to make their own contracts and economic arrangements. At the heart of socialism is the idea that government and its bureaucracies know better. Gallup is telling us that the American people are no fools.

And on another positive note….yesterday a Reagan for President bumper sticker was spotted  in the Illinois gloom. Maybe they have finally done the obvious thing to get back to the good old days and cloned the Ronald.

Capitalism is obviously better, but the current brand of capitalism is increasing cronyism and monopolies. 3% of the world population owns 97% of the wealth, but these same people often pay less than 1% of the income as tax.
This is not an acceptable form of capitalism, especially given the richest are getting richer at the expense of everyone else.
Let everyone pay the same % of tax, except the poor.
Get rid of lobbyists, and stop monopolies by blocking mergers of competitors (e.g. Facebook and Instagram).
More competition will spread the wealth out more and grow the middle class. This will make a more educated population that is more capable of selecting politicians and blocking cronyism.

A monopoly is a communist economy. It is centralizing wealth with no freedom of choice. The only winners in monopolies are the richest 3%. who owns shares in the monopoly.

Wealth should never be split out evenly because people are not equal. However, the world is going backward if the middle class shrinks at the expense of the richest 3% getting richer.

Too many politicians are on the take- and many of them are actually just lobbyists. A conservative middle-class economic agenda of fair capitalism is much better than a 3% agenda of bribes.
If capitalism fails, it will be because of cronyism and monopolies.

Yep in good old Communist countries nobody but friends and family of the #1 Guy get 100% of everything and the working folks slave for peanuts.

That is what the Demorats want.

Biden will be even wealthier that he is now.

Great.

Example:

A few years back we had our kitchen and bathroom  counters replaced.

The workers who arrived to perform the work were all Chinese.

One guy could speak a bit of English and while working he started talking to us and told us the following:

He and the other two workers on site were all contract workers who are on a six month working contract visa with the the company which was Chinese owned and run.

They were paid per hour but had to pay the owner for rent, food  etc out of their earnings to the owners.

I asked him how much an hour he earned and he was at first reluctant to tell us but eventually told us that he was on minimum wage and that the other guys got even less.

Cannot recall what the minimum wage was at the time but he was only to please to receive it and he only had to work for 8 hours per day Monday to Saturday . I think it was around C$11/hour.

Just prior to departing he mentioned that in one day he earns more per day here in Canada than what he earned in China per month.

In China he worked a minimum of 10 hours per day for 6 days a week and was paid one US Dollar per day with food and shelter supplied in one of the camps that house these workers.

A bonus  for these guys in China is that they also get free transport home once a year round trip.

No wonder our borders are being swamped with illegals.

Cannot wait for that to happen here but I think one US dollar per day for our workers (?) is a bit high for what they can do or are trained for.

Wake up you Liberals because it might be your turn pretty soon.

             Sad but true.

Sadly young South Africans in the catering industry are also on these kind of work schemes in the States.

Most Chinese work 7 days a week with only 7 days leave a year. Worse than slaves.

Ever been to China Draad, because those figures are not even close to true.

Factory workers work 6 days a week, office workers 5.5 days a week and they get 14 days annual leave a year plus around between 10 and 20 stat holidays.

I am sure some will work more but that averages out to about 80 days a year so your not even close.

If your going to try and state facts at least make sure they are correct, you risk turning into beenshit if you keep this up

New employees get 7 days leave for the first year then increases to 14 so that may be where you went wrong
Not slaves and if you had been there you would see that there is no difference between them and the average worker in the west, they have money and they go out and live  life just like you and me.
Sure they have their problems with unemployed and poverty just like every other country including all western capitalist countries. The main difference is the government has much more control of the populace. And before you call me a commie I do not support the Chinese government as they are a bunch of cunts but its nothing like you are trying to portray.

VisKop If you’re so concerned about the rich getting richer then you should start supporting blockchain. As the brilliant Brooks told congress two days back… Big tech and others have amassed huge wealth by selling applications and technology through centralised systems. What’s problematic here is that those massive entities are controlled by a handful of people within them. Meaning that you not only end up with huge wealth in the hands of the few but also, and more frighteningly, a great deal of power. Blockchain technology decentralises acquisition of wealth but also distributes power over the network among its users. There are no owners and everyone that owns a token owns a piece of the chain. The algorithms that run blockchain are immune to the many seductive pitfalls encountered by centralised power in the hands of executives and owners. A big problem that blockchains will encounter, is where governments and big industry realise that through decentralisation they will slowly bleed agency and wealth back to the masses. As you can imagine, they’ll do anything to stop this occurring. One brilliant answer Brooks gave was when asked about how government was supposed to regulate blockchains when they were so decentralised. He simply said “Blockchains are set up to entirely avoid most of the illegal and unwanted activity that governments seeks to punish, regulate and monitor. The algorithms cannot be corrupt, are completely transparent and ultimately, for the most part, don’t need you to monitor them.” - paraphrasing. Can you see why this is like a knife to the heart of the corrupt or power hungry? If you care about wealt and power disparity, don’t support socialist ideas, support blockchain.

…of course, a China kicked out all crypto miners earlier this year because the CCP can see exactly where the blockchain road leads(power to the people). And that should tell you everything you need to know.

Sader, yes...I'm obviously more ignorant of what's going on in China than you...I was repeating what my cousin told me. Many work 7 days a week... he's been living there for over 10 years...maybe my understanding was a bit out of context, I'd give you that...however, many South African menial workers would consider it "slave" labour...I think we have very labour friendly laws for a poor country...and I know that the Chinese society functions very well for such a large population,  much more or derly and safer than Africa.

I wasn't trying to portray anything...I am of the opinion that China has some of the harshest employment conditions in the world...working a lot harder and earning much less than most industrialised countries.

I'm no expert and I am sure there are many that work 7 days a week but the ones I saw doing that are mainly the small mum and pop shops where they must live out the back.

Also I am no expert I have spent a bit of time there for business and pleasure but I have a few expat friends living and working there and they are the ones who provided the information.

One ran a factory of over 150 workers for 9 years until recently and the other works in tech development for an international firm and has been there over 12 years, still only a snap shot of a tiny bit of China but heavily involved in staff and labour issues with the local workers.

Farm labourers out in the sticks are probably another story but in the cities and factories there are laws around workers rights, I am assured there is no slave masters with whips patrolling the factory floors  (but I bet there are in their indoctrination camps now that' s a different story)

China was starving in 1980, with 80% of people working on the land. Then Deng Xiaoping saved the nation and completed one of the miracles of the 20th century by introducing an amazing concept called Capitalism.

Crusty,

We visited a few factories in China (1984) just across the line from Hong Kong and were shocked to see the working conditions and state of the facilities then.

          Shocking is the word.

Needless to say we did not place any orders instead we secured contacts in Taiwan and did business with them up until 1987 when sanctions closed that avenue down.

Same people but what a difference between the two.

mozart the USA might be a capitalist country at present but with what is taking place under the present Talibiden administration it is only a matter of one or two decades before it will be similar to any African "Capitalist run countries".

The USA will sell destruct from within.....we might not be around but it will happen.

I hope and pray that I am wrong.

Well Arthur the fact that people still prefer capitalism by a big margin, is reassuring. Biden and his radical cronies are slipping in the polls….but this is a very ignorant generation and they are being bombarded with radical idea. Hopefully the old model that they grow up eventually still prevails.

We all hope and pray that they will awaken before this disaster becomes a reality.

The sooner the better for our western capitalist way of life.

AJB

There was a meeting in heaven where the Goof Lord said he ahs at least created a land of milk and Honey where people could live better than anywhere else in the World.   So along came the Devil and said You will never succeed in that because people are fickle and often stupid.

So the Good Lord says I agree - but i think it may be by forming a political party that would be  supported by stupid people and thus be punished  if people go off the rails and select a Government by Idiots.

The Good Lord then assigned the work to form such a  Party to the Devil and the Democratic Party was formed.   That  Party caused massive damage to the USA over the last 200 years and the slavery and the American Civil War was the result.   Since then they were involved in the KKK and no they are again showing their real colors in an effort to destroy the USA .

The Devils Brew  is now ruining the USA.

CM I don't think the good Lord would have stooped this low to form a party such as the DEMORATS.

More like Satan I would suggest.

Evil, corrupt and dishonest.
