The narrative that the US fights wars for oil or just general greed is almost an accepted ‘truth’ among lefties. But like many ‘truths’ it is just a much repeated lie, repeated so often, it has become a ‘truth’. So America is a warmonger, but:

1 The US only entered WW1 after civilian shipping was attacked and many lives lost, and after Germany conspired with Mexico to attack the country.

2  The US only entered WW2 after it was  attacked by Japan….despite almost every major country being involved….despite Churchill imploring the US to declare war.

3 The US only entered the Korean War after 75000 North Korean soldiers invaded the South

4 The US only entered the Vietnam War after China and Russia threw their weight behind the Viet Minh in 1950.

5 The US only entered the First Gulf War after Iraq invaded Kuwait.

6 The US only entered the Afghan war after terrorists directed from Afghanistan toppled the World Trade Center and killed 5000 people.

7 The US entered the second Iraq war after faulty intelligence suggested WMD was being acquired by Hussein in contradiction of treaty agreements.

But ‘they knew it was a lie’ is the reflex response. No they didn’t. No government would have sold a lie knowing they were going to be horribly humiliated weeks later.

……

Not in one of these cases was money involved. In fact the US is vastly in the red on all these wars. They were wars that in every case were fought on principle. And mostly in the defence of others, not US citizens or possessions.

Arthur I have heard their argument so often and it’s the opposite. No super power in the history of the world has used it’s dominant military strength more sparingly to it’s own advantage.
