This story just goes to show how little the ANC really cares about cleaning up theft .

A former ANC employee has been jailed for five years for embezzling more than R350 000 from the governing party.

Precious Dube, 31, was convicted of 52 counts of fraud. On Friday, at the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court, she was also given a suspended sentence of four years for 52 counts of money laundering.

Dube falsified bank statements and invoices to divert money into her account while a data capturer in the finance department at the ANC’s provincial branch office.

From January 2011 to October 2013, Dube falsified 52 invoices, totalling R1 524 447.45.

She changed the bank details of service providers to reflect a larger amount than charged. The ANC would pay the money into her account and Dube would pay the service providers and keep the balance.

Dube was caught after a financial audit. She admitted guilt when confronted with the evidence.

Magistrate Garth Davis said Dube’s guilty plea was not a convincing mitigating factor.

“I accept that there is a degree of remorse - she testified she apologised to her employer - but one cannot lose sight of the fact that she had 33 months and 52 occasions to reconsider,” he said. “Her contrition seems to have fully taken effect when the game was up.”

It was revealed in court papers that the ANC forgave Dube and wanted to drop the charges, but the State prosecutor refused.

The ANC offered to hire Dube back at a salary of R15 000 a month so she could use some of it to pay back some of the money she stole.

Davis scoffed at the idea, saying the ANC was treating fraud like “an interest-free loan”.

Dube, a single mother with a 7-year-old child, was sobbing as she was led down to the holding cells.

Denny

Small fry go to jail because he defrauded the ANC.  The big fish did not steal from the ANC - they stole from the state and that shows where we are at present.

Michael

Why are you the only one on this forum who religiously posts duplicate posts after duplicate posts

You have the all time record for this

In fact, in most cases, the same post of yours is posted 3 to 4 times right after each other...…

You would think you would have learnt how to get it right by now

There is a problem with the ADSL serving the intercom in the area  it goes on and off and the rooter lighting goes on and off in flashes.   If you post when the light is off the post replicates itself when coming on and off again. That is the only reason I can think duplications occur..

Nothing wrong with Telkom its the Gongs who are claiming to be Technologists/Engineers with qualifications issued by you know who, who are to blame.

In the early 70's Canada donate several electronic Telephone Exchanges to the people in Basutoland spent a fortune flying theses experts to Canada for training and providing all the spares and support that they could ever require.

Fully equipped vehicles rigged out to the 9 as well.

Needless to state within 18 - 24 months most of the exchanges failed to operate due to failed/no maintenance procedures being followed by the local experts.

I was awarded a contract to get the system up and running once more and to provide the maintenance required to maintain the system. Sure I made a penny or two .....always thankful to the "experts" for the gift that they provided.

Talk about placing square (of no) pegs in round holes.

Escom, Iscor, SAA, Railways, SADF and all government controlled enterprises are all suffering the same fate.

Technology is not their strong point.
