Durban - A water shutdown has been planned for the entire Western Aqueduct system next week. According to eThekwini Municipality spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela, the shutdown will take place next Tuesday and Wednesday, February 18 and 19.

"The main aim of the shutdown is to do a tie in of the new 800mm diameter steel main from Cato Ridge reservoir into the existing 1600mm diameter Aqueduct line.To undertake this tie in, the City is compelled to completely drain the aqueduct since the operation involves mainly steel welding. The system will therefore be completely isolated at point M custody transfer station," he said. 

He said to prepare the site for welding and construction teams on site, the process of draining the aqueduct will commence at 6am on Tuesday.

"This will allow the site teams to commence work at 6pm on the same day. The duration of the entire shut down will be from 6am on Tuesday until 6pm on Wednesday.  We will endeavor to fill all the reservoirs affected to top water level, however the behavior of respective reservoirs is different and dependent on downstream demands," Mayisela said. 

Water tankers will be dispatched to service areas experiencing water outages during this shutdown period.

True Plum, if indeed it will be fixed properly but I'm cynical. To be honest I've never seen anything being fixed permanently in SA now. They cannot even fix simple things like potholes on roads. They come to fix a few pot-holes in 2 heavy duty vehicles, 15-20 labourers, when 1 or 2 only would suffice, spend 2 or 3 days there, most of them doing nothing and 3 months later the pot-holes are back and so the same process has been repeated for years.

It's a way of false employment at huge cost to the rate/tax payer just to give the employment stats a boost.

It's one of myriads of lies and deception to keep ANC supporter s in jobs.

Some people do not even see it.

I guess that's why you are going to Canada.

Move to Riversdale - you do no get that kind of BS here,  It is the best run Municipality  in SA,

Just look at the rest of Africa and name any country under black political rule that is able to maintain anything that they inherited from the settlers.

Sad but true.

Riversdale's infrastructure will eventually meet the standard as is evident in the rest of the country.

Remember it is never too late to make a change for your family's safety and future.

Sure it is difficult to leave family and friends behind but it also wise to think ahead while you are still able to.

Forget what you have or will lose and have to start once more. Be positive and think of what you can do for your family.
