Biden says the US would intervene militarily in Taiwan

‘President Joe Biden said Monday that the United States would be willing to intervene militarily if China were to invade the self-governing island of Taiwan, again sowing confusion over American policy in the region. 

Speaking during a news conference in Tokyo alongside Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Biden said Beijing was already “flirting with danger” with its recent military drills and other aggression toward Taiwan, which China views as its own territory. 

The question came up in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“You didn’t want to get involved in the Ukraine conflict militarily for obvious reasons,” a reporter asked. “Are you willing to get involved militarily to defend Taiwan if it comes to that?”

“Yes,” Biden responded. 

“That’s the commitment we made,” he added.

Shortly after the president’s comments, a White House official appeared to walk back the declaration that the U.S. could intervene militarily. 

“As the President said, our policy has not changed. He reiterated our One China Policy and our commitment to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait,” the official said. “He also reiterated our commitment under the Taiwan Relations Act to provide Taiwan with the military means to defend itself.”

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin expressed “strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the U.S.’s remarks” and warned Washington against supporting “Taiwan independence.” 

“Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and the Taiwan issue is purely China’s internal affairs, which brooks no interference from any external forces,” Wang said on Monday, adding: “On issues concerning China’s core interests such as sovereignty and territorial integrity, China has no room for compromise.”

“No one should underestimate the strong determination, firm will, and strong ability of the Chinese people to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity," he said.

Taiwan's foreign affairs ministry welcomed Biden's comments in a statement expressing "gratitude" to the president and the U.S. government for "reaffirming their rock-solid commitment to Taiwan." 

Similar comments Biden made about Taiwan have prompted confusion in the past.’

The world needs competent leadership in the White House, this is actually dangerous,

It's pretty obvious they are pushing us into war and i hope they finally get what they have been giving to others for so many decades. 

The timing is terrible, and may push China into supporting Russia. 

There is no doubt that authoritarian dictators are stepping up their game and want to conquer more land. That article seems to suggest that China are preparing to invade Hong Kong, and the US satellites can see them preparing- like prior to the Russian invasion . 
Any time one country tries to annex another, it causes global instability. 

China and Russia are huge countries, why bother taking over other countries. 

The mentality that drives China to lust after Taiwan and Russia to invade Ukraine is so primitive it’s disappointing in the extreme that these tribal views still exist in major countries.

I do agree though that America has caused more damage to many a country in a vain attempt to assist them.

Some times it is best to let the people of countries sort out their own issues without being forced to do what America wants the country to do.

Take Africa for instance Tribal warfare has been going on since day one and is still an issue even after all the money and assistance the USA has provided.

Customs and tribal issues run deep in most if not all African countries and will continue till Doomsday.

Besides most of the monetary aid provided never ever reached the intended programs as most of the politicians filled their own pockets and a trickle of the money that did reach the intended programs was insufficient to provide any aid.n.

Vietnam, Haiti, Somali, Libya, Afghanistan and the middle east are additional examples of just how screwed up their plans proved to be.

They cannot run their own country just look at the crime, corruption, drugs and the elected folks in the Capital, all screwed up.

But yet they want to help.

Clean up your own country first should be the plan before you screw up another country.

In a subsequent "explanation" the WH has virtually nullified Biden's statement and it is apparent that nobody is really knowing who is in fact running the Presidency of the USA.    

Any measure by the USA getting involved in Taiwan is going to be a total disaster due to US Army leadership competence on a similar basis as what happened in Afghanistan  and would  lead to defeat of US forces and will have a disastrous impact on  countries like South Korea, the Philippines, Australia and even Japan.    

Will the Chairman of the Joint chief of Staff inform his Chinese Counterpart of any imminent hostilities as well?   Allies there will not be since the US Army leadership is despised by the soldiers of other countries who will refrain from participation in the defense of Taiwan  based on US Army leadership  incompetence in such  defense.

After Taiwan, South Korea and the Philippines will be the next countries  under attack with  the Chinese navy leading the attack.    Once that has been achieved the next target will doubtlessly be Australia.

I think strong leadership in the USA to prevent a worldwide  crisis will be needed and that will never happen with the Democrats in charge in the USA.              .     .

The fact is that the BRICS countries - Brazil, India, China and South Africa is already condemning the Ukrainian crisis and based it on USA involvement in undermining international negotiations to prevent the Russian invasion of  Ukraine and in trying to  reach agreement of settlement of the present situation in line with the Minsk agreement of 2015 - which the Ukraine Government refused to implement since 2015.    .
