The FBI lied about the situation in the first place and there was no case to answer, The man was bankrupted by the legal fees he had to incur and they then threatened to go for his son if he continues with the case, He had no money left, no job and was facing bankruptsy all because of shenanigans by them.

When Trump refused to listen to him the only way out was to crook and a complot followed after the Washington office already suggested that they found nothing that could be used against Flynn and suggested that the case be closed. They sent two FBI officials to entrap him and insisted that he needs not have legal representative at the meeting since it was not aimed at anything criminal, They found nothing again and the FBI compiled a summary of their findings and realized that the case was going nowhere. So the FBI fraudulently changed the transcript - similar to what the IG found iro of the FISA Court applications, Mueller in his relentless effort to pursue anything he could use to get at Trump ordered the case to go ahead,
The problem was that the FBI thought they can do what they please and would not be found out, since they thought Clinton would win the election, When that did not happen they plotted to get rid of Trump through lies they concocted and the appointment of the Mueller Special Council, Mueller could not found anything and by then a string of FBI and Justice Department officials was fired and they could not remove the paper trail left on he FBI records about the Flynn complot. When the Court ordered them to provide all the info about the Flynn case they lied to the court and stated there was nothing they had not provided.
Barr knew what happened in the FBI since 2016 and in the Mueller investigation and the IG report on FISA court application abuse and would have nothing to do with criminality in the FBI, He called for the files of the Flynn case and found the paper trail of lies the FBI concocted in this case. He knew there was no case and stopped the proceedings immediately.
A lot of people involved in criminality by the Whitehouse, FBI, the CIA and Justice Department came out in reports like the IG report, the House and Senate investigations, the Mueller report and various other sources. Barr appointed Durham to investigate what charges should be laid against the guilty - but the problem is that the guilty includes also Obama, Biden and Clinton - so the Durham criminal charges would start coming out soon.
