As stated on another thread, it's worthwhile remembering what Chinese people are capable of.

Perhaps as a reminder that governments are fleeting but genetics and culture evolve yet never go away.

Instead of merely listing all their contributions here, i'd simply suggest going to this wiki page. Damn it's a long list.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Chinese_inventions

What i'd prefer to do is talk about one specific technoligical progression as i find it quite fascinating. I'm assuming that they are part of the same progression but i may be wrong.

The ancient Chinese were expert deep well diggers and builders(also on the wiki list above). *

Great, it meant they could supply fresh and clean water reliably.

Digging these deep wells meant they'd encounter problems, resources and physical phenomenon related to the task.

For example, they found natural gas. They proceeded to use air tight bamboo piping to run the gas to the first ever gas cylinders which were transported over long distances. Gas fired furnaces and lighting was the result from which further innovstions were born.

They also found that, when inside these wells, resonance from within the earth was more apparent. They made use of the manner in which vibrations travel through solid material in order to build earthquake warning systems.

It starts with a need for water and ends in gas lights and the seismometer(132AD). That's almost two millenia ago.

Not too huge a leap when you simply look at the sumamry of ideas. It's when you consider engineering and ingenuity involved that one is staggered. The craftsmanship and the precision of related components and devices is just amazing.

Obviously this is just a small slice of the pie but it's one that i find intresting.

How truly stupid to hold back any society as capable as them.

I'm certainly no expert when it comes to Chinese politics but i do wonder what good an oppressive government is doing them. One can't help but think that they're nee dlessly living under a boot.

Would you like to spend the lock down in China? A yes or no will suffice. My comment was made in the context of the Corona Virus on a thread that was showing examples of how foreign people were being thrown out of their houses in China.

China has made some inventions, more recently the Corona Virus. Their negligent wet markets have been highlighted as a threat to humanity, but they have done nothing about it.

There are 1.4 billion people in China, more than enough riff-raff, but they are a highly ordered society...ruled very heavy-handedly.. .

Did the SARS and corona viruses started in the Wet Markets - or did it start in biological laboratory for biological warfare in Wuhan?   That is probably why the Chinese Government suppressed info on the coronavirus problem.   They are still spreading disinformation on the coronavirus,

There is no problem with the Chinese people - there are major problems with that dictatorial regime they are subjected to,

By the way it was also the Chinese who discovered gunpowder in the 9th century and it gradually found its way to Europe.   That at the time was a major scientific discovery that ended up as one of the most important developments in warfare ever up to the 20th century.   They are discoverers and traders - and would have been much better off as  free people in a normal country than they are at present.

It is also the responsibility of the country to overthrow their own tyrant regimes, albeit it is not easy.  This is particularly true given the damage China has caused to the world as a whole with the Corona Virus. It is the Chinese virus...
Nazi Germany was not just Hitler and a few associates. Many Germans supported the ideology. Those that did not, at least made attempts to overthrow the Nazi party. People tried to fight the evil and died as hero's.
Apartheid had supporters, even though many white people eventually wanted to replace it with something more modern and fair near the end. Unfortunately this turned into a disaster, but TIA (This is Africa).
China allowed their current ruler to be sworn in for life. This is just like having a king, and not even the ideals of communism- just like how Stalin killed senior party members. Communism has been tested and proven as a disaster that gets worse and worse each day, as power is consolidated.
This took China backwards by having a despot king appointed for life. The time to oppose this was just before it happened. So in some respects the Chinese are responsible for their government, and at least have to make some attempt to overthrow it.
