When countries are going to the White House to negotiate tariffs, it has become clear that the Americans are trying to force them to stop/reduce trading with China to get a favourable trade deal with the US.
Yes, I know that China has been cheating WTO standards with practices such as protectionism to price the opposition out of the market, but the choice still belongs to a country that is trading with China to buy or sell to them. No one tells me who I can and can't trade with.
America complains about protectionism, but its global trade war is about protecting American interests over a free trade market.
It is the most extreme form of protectionism, and they want countries that sell into the US to base their operations in the US, which would allow America to steal any IP. (A bit like how China has done this with overseas companies basing their manufacturing within China).
America also used to be more orientated to competition, but now seems more focused on making monopolies and cabals of investors which share across Big Tech. For example, Apple were going to make a search engine, but stopped - and are alleged to be paid by Google annually to not make a search engine (at least according to the US anti-competitive court case against Google).
Enter the rise of the Oligarchs.
Facebook was allowed to acquire Instagram and WhatsApp, and now apparently may be broken up for illegally acquiring its competitors to build a monopoly (Illegal? It was approved by the government, so it must be legal- even if the government illegally approved it).
There is an argument that China has made some improvements to capitalism by ensuring that much of the profits from companies are reinvested back into the industry, like R&D, rather than just focusing on delivering profit to shareholders to buy yachts and helicopters.
That is all debatable, but it is clear that America is trying to dictate to the world economy. They see China as a competitor, and they are trying to crush it. America are not a reliable trading partner. If they did crush China, their next target would be the EU, then BRICS and so on
