The above article is very interesting, It touches on some really interesting topics. However, there is one topic I dislike intensely, In most of the countries the virus and the lockdowns have become a political weapon they use to actually cause an economic catastrophe so as to help them in their political campaigns, In Sweden and Germany it was not, The Governments in both countries are weak and very vulnerable if it becomes a political battleground and the local media realized that politicizing the issue could have devastating impact on their preferred center-left Governments. So they kept it out of politics and actually handled the situation better than the rest of the other major EU countries did.
In the USA the leftist media realized that unless there is an economic catastrophe Trump would get re-elected easily. After for two months writing exclusively about the Trump impeachment situation and rarely mentioning the coronavirus issue - the media and the Democrats took another route to try and harm he election campaign of Trump when the fake Impeachment ended. The issue became a center-piece of the media and the Democrats in their campaign to get rid of Trump. They started the campaign on the basis that any action of Trump involving China was racist and then as the virus impact got worse in the USA the media found sources like Ferguson to cause panic in the country,
Trump had two weaknesses in this case - he listened to the Chinese in their propaganda and believed the Chinese were genuine in what they told him and what the WHO organization was advocating in January 2019, He should have acted earlier in banning of the Chinese to enter the USA, but held back because of the Impeachment mania of the DP and secondly because they would have gone ballistic if he acted otherwise than to what the WHO was preaching about in that time.
When Trump started acting the Democrats called him a racist and the WHO claimed that the move was counter-productive. However, the panic spreading got worse - leading to the lockdown that to my mind was in fact crazy. Destruction of the economy was absolutely certain causing unemployment on a catastrophic scale. I think the sooner the USA Government gets out of the lockdown trap and start opening the economy and help businesses to get productive again - the sooner the ordinary people in the USA would benefit from it.
In SA the Government has gone ballistic. They have some of the most drastic lockdown situations in he world. In a country where Zuma was the center of corruption in Government - one of the main corruption incomes for the Zumas were the illegal tobacco trade in the country involving a son of President Zuma. The income from the Guptas has dwindled - but there was a need for replacement, So Dr Zuma took over and banned selling of cigarettes and alcohol resulting in the blackmarket trade in those two commodities, At this stage cigarettes are generally sold at R7 per cigarette and between R120 and R150 per packet and the 11 million smokers in SA - and especially in the poorer sectors of the community is buying cigarettes at exorbitant prices and their families suffer as a result. Who benefits fro m that? Look no further than the Zuma's benefitting from the black-market trading, while the tobacco industry is sabotaged and large numbers of workers losing their jobs - also while the Government loses billions in excise duty.
In the USA the Democrats and the media are crazy - in SA the Government are both crazy and corrupt, . , .
In SA, I feel the ANC will ride this aid pony into the grave while not giving too much of a shit about the consequences.
Much of what was suopposed to be aid has been used to fill financial gaps in areas not at all related to COVID.
Perhaps the interest rates are lower on disaster aid. Haha
Government is one of a our clients and three days after the supposed aid money landed they finally paid a bill that had been outstanding for over a year. I don't think that was happenstance.

The risk to people 65 and younger with no preconditions is much lower than the flu. Hence no need for any lock downs.

I have often told you that you can sometimes be your own worst enemy. I’m not going to regurgitate all the facts, but I will leave you with this:
1. The Trump administration, although not even a tiny fraction as incompetent as the lefties and the media would like you to believe, has not been as perfect as you would like to believe either. Mistakes were also not made with malicious intent like the lefties and the media would have us believe.
2. I am also convinced that there was nothing malicious behind the CDC and their actions either. Remember that at the start of this, there were next to nothing known about this virus, bar the fact that it could be deadly. Virtually all the available info was dodgy at best. From China’s lies and deception, to the WHO head honcho’s unwavering support for China to the crappy models of the UK’s Dr Ferguson.
All the mistakes that were made all over the world by both politicians, medical people, economists, advisors, etc was cast away in a dark corner due to the relentless attacks by the media on Trump. That way all the failures all over were nicely hidden away out of site. All the while, as the breathless media and every second virtue signalling snowflake alway like to sob, “people are dying”.
