Colbert on Trump’s ‘election defense fund’: ‘The whole thing was a grift’

Stephen Colbert was “still digesting yesterday’s bombshell” that was the second of the House select committee’s public hearings on the events of 6 January 2021. The hearing on Monday included evidence that Donald Trump scammed his followers out of $250m with his “Official Election Defense Fund” to fight fictional voter fraud in the aftermath of the 2020 election.

“Surprise, surprise, the committee discovered the whole thing was a grift,” the Late Show host explained. “So he duped $250m from his most passionate supporters, then watched as they all go to prison while he sat at Mar-a-Lago double-fisting coconut shrimp.

“And these aren’t wealthy people! You can always tell, because they’re wearing nothing but giveaway merch from the losing team,” he said over a photo of Capitol rioters decked in Maga gear.

According to the committee, $1m of the “election defense fund” went as a donation to the personal foundation of Mark Meadows, Trump’s chief of staff. “Yes, the Meadows foundation is a charity that raises money to fund research into how much money it can raise,” Colbert joked.

Another $200,000 went to the former president’s hotels, “and that was just Giuliani’s bar tab”, Colbert quipped. And the former Fox News anchor turned Don Jr paramour Kimberly Guilfoyle was paid $60,000 for her two-minute speech at Trump’s January 6 rally. “But it was worth every dime,” Colbert deadpanned. “I’ll never forget her immortal words: ‘Yaaahhghaahheetahaaaghhh!!’”

Bullshit spreading by the media and the Democrats to try and save them from an election  disaster in November is plain and utter garbage.    The BS will only stop when the Democrats lose control of the  House and Senate - inevitable  because everything they and the  crooked, dumb and their  dementia-ridden President come up with has turned to shit.  

How many false media stories have  you raised over the last five years based on lies the Democrats and the media concocted and you still repeat the BS on site.    If there sis anything wrong in what Trump did - why did that Pelosi-\appointed  propaganda Committee stated that they will not refer their "findings" to the Justice Department  for criminal charges -  they said that themselves?   Reason - they know what they are busy with is a political witch hunt and propaganda based on no evidence as was the case with the Russian Hoax myth based on lies the Democrats concocted themselves is no evidence in court.   

The end of the BS is in sight - the November election is less than 5 months away and the whole structure of lies can be  dismembered.    They will do what should be done in any Democracy and that is to clean up the disaster as bad as what Zuma and the ANC did to SA.   What the Democrats know is that their leadership is in deep trouble for real corruption,  because the Republicans have now found out what really is the case and they will clean up the Justice Department and the FBI from the state capture program of Obama and the Democrats and mak sure the real criminals are dealt with.   

Trump does not need the so-called fund  - he will get billions from the media and the real criminals involved in libel claims.       .  .
