Beeno

I decided to rather open a new thread to discuss your ludicrous assertions in the other thread, that using the current USA stats to advise South African's about how to react or treat this virus, is 100% correct

You say...

"While there may be slight differences between populations re deaths per age group your figures are complete nonsense.. "

"DA please try to come to grips with the science oak. Chances are you could if you were not so lazy."

Boy are you one seriously stupid guy....the only lazy one here is you Beeno… and for a qualified chartered accountant, you seriously don't do your profession any justice dude.

You want to use the USA figures to convince us what the actual "correct" death rate percentages are for ages.... using science?

Ok, so let me get this very clear then:

We don't have the same financial resources as the USA

We don't have the necessary numbers of vital hospital equipment, to handle this epidemic, that the USA does

We don't have the necessary medicine to treat everyone like the USA does

We have nowhere near the same daily hygiene practices in South Africa that the USA does... any health care is better than the horseshit we have here, except if you are lucky to have a very good medical aid, which I fortunately have.

Millions in South Africa have no access to immediate water.....so cannot even wash their hands once a day, never mind multiple times a day.

We don't have enough qualified nurses or doctors here in South Africa

We don't have the credible and professional advisors in South Africa that the USA does

We don't have the same public health systems in South Africa

We don't have the same public transport systems here in South Africa

We have different belief systems here in SA.... millions still believe a witchdoctor will cure them

We have different ancestry beliefs.... millions still believe the sangoma's are talking to their forefathers to heal them

We have different medicinal beliefs..... millions still believe that "Muti" will kill any virus they have

We have millions and millions of people living and sharing tin shacks with 8 and more people, which totally exacerbates the spread of this virus in South Africa....

We have far more people with comorbidities, population percentage wise, in South Africa, such as Aids, TB, Malaria, Malnutrtion, poverty.... to name just a few

We have a R60 billion a year taxi industry which just says a big "fuck you" to the government, and continues to 100% load their taxi's to full capacity.... to prevent loss of revenue.... and if not, they just shoot and kill other transporters

We have millions of people every day.... standing on top of each other for Sassa, UIF, food grants, child grants...… spreading the virus

We have a R60 billion a year taxi industry which just says a big "fuck you" to the government, and continues to cross all provincial borders illegally... so that their taxi's don't lose revenue....spreading the virus throughout the country.

Now testing in South Africa is being restricted in some places to only people over the age of 55.... reducing all numbers of results

South Africa is also very fast heading to being in the top 5 in the world, with total confirmed cases...…. and we were 32nd place in May..... we are now 13th...… we have doubled our total national confirmed Covid case numbers, in the last 14 days alone.

I ask again, are you and your family walking around every day with no masks on, in public spaces.......

This is just "some" of the information that is available...… and you want to use the USA stats to preach utter shit here?

You are a fucking joke

DA

There is a further problem as well and that is the diet of too many people in SA weakens the natural resistance of people to infections and there are widescale TB and AIDS problems as well.

The lockdown has lost a  lot of people their jobs and starvation has \been reported, which inevitably will cause more deaths.

The future looks bleaker by the day,    We have been lucky in the Riversdale area where there were only 9 infections and  6 have recovered.   One ran away - nobody knows where to  and the other two is in isolation.   That is rather rare in SA at present,

I fully agree with you Mike.... that is why I specifically mentioned the malnutrition / poverty

Hence why I cannot understand how stupid Beeno genuinely is, to even compare our Covid numbers to the USA numbers, and then proceed to try and lecture us continuously to use those numbers when we are making our own decisions on what ages are affected, who it actually affects, and whether to wear a mask or not..... oh.... and the percentages that you have of dying per age group

The bloke is as stupid as you can possibly get.....

Sorry to hear that Draad……

Sadly, we are all going to probably say that at some point, before this is all over...… I just genuinely hope that we never have to say it about somebody here

Our under 40's stats are nothing compared to anywhere else, purely because our infrastructure.... systems..... people..... lifestyle..... demographics.... are not like any other first world country....

Our resident qualified accountant has no idea what he is talking about

Initially, it looked like COVID was going to be worse in the cold countries, but it just seems to have spread their first.
With South America doing badly, it became clear that this virus is also deadly in warm conditions- especially during the winter.
With the big spikes in South Africa, it is spreading fast.
It is estimated that 1 in 10 cases is reported, and in Africa, it must be an even lower number.
If it says 10,000 cases in SA- then it is more like hundreds of thousands.

Er...no...our figures ate in line with t he projected for the extra deaths plus our recovery rate for known cases are also much better than elsewhere in the world.  We are doing great. This can't be stopped here...impossible...we need to slow it down and weather the storm as good as we can. If we die, life still goes on for the rest...life in Africa.

Still not that much data in SA compared to some countries. SA is just starting to become an epidemic when it starts to spread like wildfire.

Last Thursday we topped 8 000 cases, for the first time....  within a 24 hour period

The very next day... Friday, it was 9 000

Saturday it was 10 000 cases

Yesterday our 24 hour confirmed case number was over 13 000

Yep, I know.....the number of tests done daily.... has a direct impact on this number

I also fully agree with Draad, this fear mongering needs to stop......but certain people are always out to make money...… it's disgusting

At the same time, stupid people like Beeno need to wake the fuck up and realise that this is just as serious as some people are making it out to be, and the only time people actually come around to agreeing with this kind of mentality…. is when they... or someone close to them.... is affected by it..... which is clearly already too late

Then you also get stupid, reckless and very  idiotic people like Beeno who constantly preaches to a forum full of people, and possibly his friends and colleagues at home, that they must definitely not wear a mask.... if they want to live a healthy life.....

Beeno, you very clearly don't care at all what happens to other people, including people on this forum, and their families......so rather just shut the fuck up

Here are Beeno's wise words of wisdom from the previous thread

"A surgical mask stops particles larger than 3 micron. The Wuhan virus is 1 micron. Cloth masks are TOTALLY useless."

Here are direct verbatim quotes, from the "Center for Disease Control and Prevention" website....right at the very top of their page..... you do not even need to scroll down at all, to read all this information

  • - CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings and when around  people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
  • - Cloth face coverings may help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others.
  • - Cloth face coverings are most likely to reduce the spread of COVID-19 when they are widely used by people in public settings.
  • - Cloth face coverings should NOT be worn by children under the age of 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing, is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.
  • Evidence for Effectiveness of Cloth Face Coverings

Cloth face coverings are recommended as a simple barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other people when the person wearing the cloth face covering coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice.

This is called source control. This recommendation is based on what we know about the role respiratory droplets play in the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19, paired with emerging evidence from clinical and laboratory studies that shows cloth face coverings reduce the spray of droplets when worn over the nose and mouth.

COVID-19 spreads mainly among people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet), so the use of cloth face coverings is particularly important in settings where people are close to each other or where social distancing is difficult to maintain.

Who Should Wear A Cloth Face Covering?

     General public

    • CDC recommends all people 2 years of age and older wear a cloth face covering in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain
    • COVID-19 can be spread by people who do not have symptoms and do not know that they are infected. That’s why it’s important for everyone to wear cloth face coverings in public settings and practice social distancing (staying at least 6 feet away from other people).
    • While cloth face coverings are strongly encouraged to reduce the spread of COVID-19, CDC recognizes there are specific instances when wearing a cloth face covering may not be feasible.

You are more than welcome to check this information out here

    CDC

Next time you want to play with people's lives Beeno, get your facts straight....

As I said Beeno….. rather just shut the fuck up.... you selfish.. reckless twat.... and I would also say stick to numbers..... but even with your university qualifications.... you aren't even good at that.

DA, I didn't read the CDC mask comments yet....jyst the following.  The virus is 3 times smaller than what the mask stops, but the virus is normally not airborne on it's own, but normally present within saliva particles that the mask will stop. The masks are not 100% effective, but even if they're just 50% effective, it will make a massive difference...we should do as much as we can.

    Crazy numbers blobbok

Some other interesting stats about the taxi industry

    - People using the taxi service every day - 14 - 15 million

    - Average time spent by each person in a taxi, per day - 65 minutes

    - Average number of people transported in each taxi, per month - 3 161

    - Average number of taxi trips per day, per person - 2.3

    - Total travel distance in one year - 19 billion kilometers

    - Total of taxi's operating in South Africa - 250 000

    - Taxi related deaths - 3 per day

    - 43% of all assassinations in South Africa is taxi related

    - 69% of all South African households utilise taxi transport

All this, and they still reckon they can maintain, curb or prevent the unecessary spread of Covid-19

    What a complete joke

Wearing a mask all day is definitely not healthy, you're inhaling your own carbon dioxide. 30 minutes with one on my face and I start developing a headache, and many people I know have the same complaint. So I wear it only when I enter a shop or have to interact with someone. Soon as I leave it comes off.

Fully agree Draad, as do most parents..... some parents use the mask and the visor for very limited periods of time or in escalated areas where infections could occur.

"Wearing a mask all day is definitely not healthy, you're inhaling your own carbon dioxide. 30 minutes with one on my face and I start developing a headache, and many people I know have the same complaint. Exactly Pakie, 100% correct... as I already said myself, I hate the bloody things, but as you mention here…. common sense still prevails at the end of the day..... take it off as soon as you have finished what you need to do, but keep it on whilst in the company of others.

About 90 days ago, JHB had 1 case. Now it has 100 000.

Having more people in the population with it makes it harder for the virus to spread.

    How much harder?

At some point, it will be so difficult that instead of 1 case spreading to 100 000 people over 90 days, it only infects 500 people. Or another way of saying it is that at that point it will be 99.5% more difficult for the virus to spread.

    100 000 presently known cases x 500 new infections per case = 50 000 000 in 90 days.

That's almost everyone in the country.

We recently completely doubled our total national positive cases...... in less than 14 days......however, at the same time, not that long after this happened ….not testing people under the age of 55 was also implemented in some areas, so that they could focus on the more elderly residents over 55..... so this also had the side effect of also negating all the total confirmed new cases that they may have had from testing the under 55's...…
