BRITAIN could place curbs on immigration as part of a trade deal with the EU, France's former Prime Minister has said.
Alain Juppe said restrictions on the free movement of people should be "up for negotiation" once divorce proceedings are underway.
He urged Eurocrats not to "punish" Britain, saying: "We need to co-operate, to find a solution to have the UK in the European market."
Mr Juppe also said the Government should trigger Article 50, the formal process for withdrawal from the EU, "as soon as possible".
